even though my moniker is gardenweasel,i`m no gardner.....have no idea why i used the name.....whatever....
but,last year, i took down some old silver maples and had a huge old pine tree fall on my property....
the hole created by the pine root system being pulled out of the ground made the pine easy to replace....the hole was there...
so,i decided to replace the maples with smaller kousa dogwoods....not thinking about the cicada infestation that was coming....
after digging out the holes(i live on a street with a "stone" in the name....it was no coincidence.....i previously had to rent a jackhammer to make some holes for some arborvitae trees i planted).....
well,i got the holes dug thanks to an iron bar and several days of agony...
planted the trees...they started to bud...then,a neighbor told me that young dogwoods are prime targets for cicada egg laying and at their tender age,might be ruined or even killed....
so i found some large mosquito netting at sunny`s surplus,got some long bamboo,some plastic ties,stakes and took a few days to net and tie off those suckers....
well,it`s a good thing...because every morning i`m out there with a frickin` broom sweeping wave`s of these pissers off the netting....
they are all over the place...on everything.....one flew in the mouth of a kid playing in the neighborhood........you wake up every morning to the sound track from some sci fi movie...disgusting s.o.b.`s...
every 17 years is to soon...
