The writing is top notch. It may appear sophomoric on the peripheral, if you just catch a scene here and there. But once you learn the characters and the underlying themes (Peter battling a giant talking chicken like Jason Bourne, or a three minute music video of Conway Twitty curiously injected into the storyline) it is constantly hilarious.

There are a lot of 70s references and black comedy galore. Peter Griffin is the modern day Archie Bunker basically with no boundaries. In one episode, the neglected daughter, Meg, is the designated driver. Peter and his drinking buddies sets her hair on fire from the back seat. There's an evil monkey in his son's closet. His neighbors are a pilot/sex maniac, a cop in a wheelchair and a crusty old pedophile.

And then you have the personifications of the dog, a martini drinking, sagacious, Prius driving writer and Stewie the baby, a gay British genius looking to conquer the world and rub out his mother.

You have to watch two or three episodes before it snags you. This is like arguing about music, everyone has their thing. I can't watch hockey or ultimate fighting. But Hedgehog, this is certainly an adult cartoon, not for kids man.

Well said!
