I live on the Mississippi river on the Iowa side of whats known as the Quad Cities. Davenport and Bettendorf, Iowa and Rock Island and Moline, Illinois are the larger towns--the metro area is approx. 350,000 people.

Johnny Lujack-- Heisman trophy winner from Notre Dame in the 40's, I think. Married a girl from Davenport, moved here and joined in the family auto dealership. Its still here, now known as Lujack's Auto Plaza, the largest independently owned auto dealer in the country.

Don Nelson-- Rock Island and University of Iowa. Played for the Celtics during their glory years in the 60s, currently head coach of the Dallas Mavericks in the NBA.

Roger Craig-- Davenport Central High and Nebrasaka. Hall of fame running back with the 49ers, first man to gain 1000 yrds rushing and recieving in the same season in the NFL. Had a sports bar with his name attached for a long time at the Casino boat in Bettendorf--don't think its still named for him as I go to the boat in Davenport for my gambling. Hosts a charity golf tourney every year in the area that attracts many ex-NFLers

Curtis Craig-- roger's older brother also played at Nebraska and a few years in the NFL.

Acie Earl-- Moline and Iowa for college. First round draft pick of the Celtics was a complete bust a few years back. Now coaching in the CBA or the NBDL, not sure which.

Gene Oliver-- Rock Island(I think) played in the Major Leagues not too long after Jackie Robinson broke the color barrier.

And one from outside of sports that was in this mornings newspaper. The new CEO of McDonalds, Jim Skinner, graduated from the same High School I did, Davenport West. The same class as BahamaMama I think.....LOL.

I'm sure there are some I'm missing, but thats all I could come up with off the top of my head...
