gman.....no disrespect, but have you ever been a pitcher at a very competitive level?
It IS a big deal....no matter how you slice it. If it wasnt then why dont teams just throw a couple pitchers out there every night? Because it is taxing on your arm, especially a young arm. You may not see direct results on it this early in the year, or this early in a career, but it is not healthy to throw a young guy out there for 130+ pitches.
And just because a guy may only throw in the upper 80's doesnt mean he isnt throwing hard. It is quite possible that is the hardest he can throw, and that is just as taxing on an arm as it is for Randy Johnson to throw his upper 90's fastball.
Wait until the end of the season, and mark my words....all of the Marlin starters will have seen their time on the disabled list, and much of it can be avoided.
