WHATEVER you buy, go get fitted!

I'm hitting this, 8.5 loft.

I use an 8.5 loft Cleveland Launcher and get 240 - 250 on average ... most end up in the fairway - I used to be better but I only get out 3 or 4 times a year now.

First of all, how can you 'average' between 230-260?:mj07: :mj07: :mj07:

Let me remind you guys AVERAGE doesn't mean the farthest shot you have ever hit:142smilie It means how far you can pipe it EVERY time.

Well... for people who play 3-6 times per year, an average is pretty elusive. Just like a handicap. It would be impossible for me to honestly give you a handicap and not be called a liar in a scramble.

My handicap would probably be around 26, but if I was able to really use that in a tournament I would be about the best legitimate D player you've met.

So, I stick with my 230-260 range of drives.

I apologize for not being able to dedicate as much time on the golf course... I would much rather tool around on this discussion board. :)

And to clarify

It means how far you can pipe it EVERY time.

When being a smart ass, you should probably attempt to be correct. EVERY time is not the definition of average.

My longest drives would be around 280, but I can't AVERAGE or hit it EVERY time.

Thanks for the education, though. :00hour

I used to think I hit it 270-280 consistantly......then I bought a Skycaddie. Now I know I hit it 250-260. That was with my 10.5* R7 Superquad. I just got a 8.5* Burner TP (last years model) and I've gained 10-15 yards:00hour .

Thanks, Scott

If it's not a slice in the woods I probably average 275. I know I can top 300, but I can also hit some 250 .....so I'll say 275 average. I use a 7 year-old $100 Wilson driver and I'll never give it up!!

Due to coaching, have not had time to play golf consistently over the past three years. But, when I can play once/twice a week, I average about 250. Usually pretty straight.

I have been using a 9 degree Wilson Deep Red driver with a firm graphite shaft. It took me a little time to get used to it, but now I can hit drives the way I want to, when I need to (high/low/left/right). After I stop coaching the boy in the summer in a couple years, I probably will upgrade all my woods.

260-270 on a typical drive. 280 if i get a good bounce. :00hour

Definitely get fitted whatever driver u buy..

I play a Callaway X460.... but if u play a lot and price is not an option.... check these out:

The Titleist D1 & D2s.. they r different in spin rate / ball flight..

Callaway FT-i..... straightest driver ive ever hit, but some people r turned off by the square head.

Ping Rapture or G10.. both really good drivers all around IMO. G10 has a better pricetag on it..

Just my favs, of course..

Driving distances are like handicaps depends on variables-wind-grass lenth-slope-firmness of fairway..

Did you know most holes chosen on lpga to record distance are downhill to pad driving stats.

We having driving range here that I have been prob ave of 150 time a year for eight years--has 300 yard sign that is actually 286 and fence at end behind it is 312 yards. Elevation from tee slightly uphill. Range balls excellent quality an not limited flight.

--bet in those years I've heard 100's of people speak of hitting 300 yards yet in all that time (with exception of longest drive competition on year) have seen only one person fly the fence and that was Holmes. Probably 2nd longest is guy with artificial leg who consistantly rolls them through fence.

I'll buy the bucket of balls and offer $100 for anyone wanting to come down and try to fly the fence and will give $50 on the 300 (286) marker--and wind generally at your back.

Chad Played that course I told you about 'Old Stone' for 2nd time yesterday--Played with some youngsters that put me on the tips--hit ball straight-never out of 1st cut of rough (never had a penalty stroke) and fired a big 91. 1st cut rough brutal as is next to greens. Was too far to hold greens on par fours with long irons and a couple I couldn't reach. 75% of excess srtokes came from within 15 yards of green and in--usually my strength--but rough and sloping lightening greens--are like nothing I am accustomed to. Was embarrasing--but did beat the young guns :)

My drives are inconsistent - one hole it will be 250+ and the next I'll hook it into the woods 100 yards away. My driver is a little too short for me though, so that may be part of the problem...its one of the old "Killer Bee" clubs with the huge head!
Gotta buy a nice new one this winter when the season is over and they slash all the prices.

I went to a few Predators games with the pro there. I'll be coming up a few times next month to play it. I want to get a few rounds under my belt so it will be less embarrassing. And I can guarantee you that I will not play from the tips no matter how much I get pressured!
