Yeah I can tell you are on a short fuse about this.

Quick question though, what should I bet per play based on your system?

Hope you get to feeling better. Hang in there, back pain is awful. Last resort to cut, get a couple of more opinions.

Fletch,
My pops a Chiro - have 2 herniated disks (L5, S1)...had 'em for 15 years - still play softball twice a week - get pain time-to-time - but manageable - check into chiropractic - much better alternative than seeing MD - all MD's want to do is cut....also look into epidural shots - basically it is cortisone in the spinal area - it can also really help.. give me a call sometime at home if you want details on some of the stuff I've tried, and what has worked...
Take it easy,
Mags

Probably want at least second, or yes even a third opinion for back surgery. Not sure if it's back (more serious) or shoulder but never wrong in getting another opinion. Never can tell when the guy's just trying to make his next Jag payment if you know what I mean. BTW I'm a primary care doc. Not my specialty, just making a generalization. Feel free to get my email if I can help any.

Fletch,

If the report on the MRI is serious, it's probably more important to have the MRI read by different Radiologists, as well as different Orthopedists, and to have them bump their heads together to decide on the treatment option. No offense to Mags, if there're any fractures, or slipped discs, letting a Chiropractor manipulate your vertebrae is very risky. Good luck.

Fletch--

An MRI can be read right there on the spot. Push these docs and tell them you'd like the reading and results tomorrow AM.

Call if you'd like.

Fletch,
I agree with Ddubs - if there is a fracture, it is entirely a different story. Typically it is a herniated disk or bulging disk - but no two backs, or people's situations, are the same - the MRI will be very helpful in determining what is going on - all I'm saying is be careful, as my "specialist" told me 10 years ago that I should have surgery - and he guaranteed I would within 5 years - and I'm still playing softball... the longer you can go w/o surgery, the better, as in time, as in all medical advances, there WILL be a time when back/disk surgery will be perfected to the point that it is considered MINOR surgery - that's what I'm praying for! Good Luck!

Fletch, if MRI isn't conclusive, there's always MRI with dye, that's more detailed, if you haven't had that already. My mom had 2 back surgeries from one of the finest Orthopedic surgeons in the area, unfortunately, he's now retired. She's doing great. (Surgeries were for different things by the way, didn't have to be done twice because of boo-boo) It is such a delicate thing, I know someone who had the 49er's orthepedist operate on him and he's disabled for life. Go figure. Just re-affirming, be careful who you have for a Dr. you just never know. All the best to you, you're in my prayers.

As stated above by various people, there are no guarantees just like in gambling. As a chiropractor, a manipulation may be helpful for you and it also may be contra-indicated depending on physical exam findings and radiology results. There are chiropractic techniques that are non-force that can be very beneficial for you.
MRI are very helpful in determining the size and location of a disc bulge or herniation as well as determining the degree of spinal stenosis (narrowing). However, just like x-rays, just because the MRI does not show anything does not mean there is nothing there. Were there any x-rays taken before your MRI? Were any ortho tests performed on you? Blood or urine tests? Sometimes back pain is actually referred pain from another organ. Anything can cause anything.
I have other questions to ask you so please ask jack for my email address or write to me on this forum if you are interested. You have helped me on this forum so it is a pleasure to assist you in any way that I can.
