Hey, if you still have that shirt, I could use it for a scarecrow!

HH- where is the best place to plant Raspberries? Full sun/partial/morning/evening? I would like to plant some but not sure where and my garden boxes are out near my alley so I was hoping not to put them down there seeing as how people like to stroll though and help themselves. How long does it take to get berries after planting?
I was told that I wouldn't get strawberries this year or maybe next since I planted them last year.
On the strawberries, you should get a few this year, but if you really want them to come in good next year, I suggest picking off all the flowers that come out before they turn into berries - this way, the plant puts its energy into rooting instead of flowering. Will really improve future harvests.
You can really plant raspberries about anywhere - they grow like a weed. I would say minimum 4 hours of sunlight, and they will do fine, or a spot that is partial shade/sun all day. 6-8 hours sunlight would be optimal. I planted mine in a pretty sunny spot last September, and they are already HUGE. Planted three raspberries and they have already suckered out to cover about 10 feet. Dug up blackberry canes at the neighbors last year and planted about 20 feet of blackberries, and they are huge too. They will spread, so you have to be a little careful where you put them. We have a pond, so I put ours back behind the pond where they can just do whatever they want. I think they like to be planted in spring or fall, so if you wait until fall and plant them, you should have a few berries by next year. I planted four more raspberries this spring about three weeks ago from plants that looked like twigs, and they are already fruiting as well.
I had 18 strawberry plants last year and this year I ended up with one. I don't know if the squirrels got them or they just died over winter. Is it too late to get new ones or should I wait til next spring? I know they won't get berries but I kind of suck at the green thumb thing so all the help I can get is great. I have a strip of yard along my house out back next to the neighbors that I could plant the raspberries in which would also make for a good barrier since they now have a dog.
Do you have dew berries up there?
Starting to eat a lot of stuff from the garden. Harvested a few pounds of food today alone. My favorite time of year, with blueberries, blackberries, and raspberries ripening. Picked a whole bowl of raspberries this morning, then our neighbor called tonight and said he had too many blackberries, so picked a whole bunch more - and they are still not done! Love it. In addition to canning fresh pressed grapes, we also have a friend who makes us some delicious (and very strong) wine with our grapes.
Fresh peas are one of the most delicious things in the world.

You know, I wonder? We have a huge batch of wild blackberries back in our woods, in addition to all the ones we planted, but I wonder if they could be dew berries? How can you tell the difference?

1/2 glass full of fresh spinach and kale
1/2 glass
