i've been on my mother's ass for a long time. ever since the damn things put her in the hospital and she almost died 5 years ago.

anyway, she's been taking that pill and today is the first day she is supposed to not smoke.

i just heard her in the kitchen getting coffee and straight to the garage. WTF? didn't even make it 10 minutes?

i better go check.

tough situation Jack, she's your Mom, she's gonna do it if she wants. I know YOU want HER to stop but obviously she doesn't want to stop. Stay strong on your own path and try to push her in the right direction, but don't let it wear on you too much.

Jack,
Just a suggestion...probably makes sense to those who quit...long term
Try changing your mindset to that of a non-smoker!!!!!!! who can drink, enjoy coffee, etc.
You are NOT a person trying to quit!!!
YOU HAVE QUIT! DONE! You are a non smoker and you can do what you want now! (simply without smokes)
The physical need, psychological need, and the attitude WILL and are already improving after 9 days.
Don't let cigarettes occupy your mind anymore... do NOT entertain the possibility of failure somewhere down the road when the pressure is on or some other rationalization.
Great Job to all who have quit!!!

bubbas, i'm curious about how it's going for you since you stopped with the chantix.

i started research yesterday (yeah i always do things bass ackwards) and don't like what i'm reading.

the reason i started the research on chantix is because i am starting to get a few side effects i'm not liking. also, i have read that some people don't get ANY or minor side effects while on the drug but after stopping use, they start getting a lot of the side effects they didn't get prior.

some effects that i'm getting that i read many others are experiencing too.

- sleep, i can get to sleep but wake up a few hours later and then find it difficult to get back to sleep. i have never had problems sleeping.

- foggy mind, i have trouble focusing and my already shitty memory is getting worse. like walking into the kitchen and forgetting what you went in there for? it's happening a lot more frequently.

- gas, holy shit. anybody want to have a fart contest with me, you have ZERO chance of winning. i might start going into expert mode soon and try to change tones, hit higher pitches, and make new songs. look out youtube, here i come :mj07:

- joint pain. WTF is going on here? Last night i could barely walk because my right foot started hurting like hell for no reason at all. today it's better? not just my foot either. my neck, shoulder and knees are hurting.

i'm afraid of some other effects hitting me later when i'm off the pill.

on the prescription we get there are about 5 or 6 common symtoms listed. here is the whole list of side effects that are being reported (below in bold).

I have taken that pill for 16 days and i'm not going to take it anymore.

just curious on how things are going for you.

day 10 of non-smoking here. a good start anyway :)

WTF Jack get off those things. :scared Almost sounds like it's not worth it.

I know you want to quit but the side effects are scary. Maybe if you cut the dose?

Good luck!

Jack..That foggy feeling was what I was talking about only I said I was neutral. Never got the gas but had extremely loose stool. Pills made me sleepy. Went right to sleep and enjoyed the dreams. No pains or aches.

Dont stop taking the pills all at once. Wein yourself off them..thats what I did. Cut the pills in half and was off them after 3 days. I did it this way because I had read about people having a rough time when the stopped all at once. Didnt want to take a chance. Didnt have any problems after I stopped taking them. Everything went back to normal.
