Right behind you
I will venture a guess that my friend, who postponed his education by leaving law school to join the marines in September, 2001, is more noble, courageous and honorable than the lot of us posting in this thread. He served multiple tours and fought like hell to serve more, but wad sidelined with a severe back ailment.

He acted out of a selfless desire to protect our way of life and regrets nothing.

Your friend is no doubt a brave and patriotic person. The question, however, is whether he should have been used to fight a war against an "enemy" which had done us no harm, and which had no capability to do us harm.

That says nothing derogatory about your friend. He did as he was told, no doubt courageously.

I does say something about the cowardly warhawks who promoted war, falsely claiming that "our way of life" was at risk, and knowing that they would never have to fight.

Please give him my thanks, Cie.

I come from a family of war and military veterans. I thank them consistently for their courage and their service.
Please do not disparage the brave men and women who made the service their choice.
You can blast away at the military industrial complex, as some call it, or the gov't or the Pentagon or anyone in charge but leave those brave souls out of the discussion please.

There is nothing in this post stating that someone who joins is not courageous or honorable. The point is why risk your life for a government that doesn't give a shit about you? A government that fights wars only to line the pockets of the elite. It's not worth putting my life on the line to make the rich richer and fight wars that we don't need to fight for few dimes.

To state the military (gov't)doesn't care for the soldier is highly debatable.

This buddy is also very gullible and i wouldn't want him working on a case for me even if it was for free. Being noble is one thing and being clueless is another. Let me put it this way. I walk into a club with a friend and someone starts with him he will get 100 percent support from me. If my buddy wants to start a fight he can go at it alone. If he doesn't like me afterward to fuking bad and find another friend. I tell my road rage girl the same thing. U want to sit there and scream at traffic i hope u can fight ur fight alone cause i aint getting out of the car.

Let me tell ya what i mean there Rusty. I had a friend who had this trouble maker girlfriend and he wasn't much better. One night me, the friend, and another are in the car. I'm in the back seat and we are at a light. The friend jumps out of the car and i ask my buddy in the front "what the hell is going on?" Next thing i know i jump out of the car and find my buddy being choked out by the driver of this other car. I break him free and next thing i know is this guy has a gun to my temple. Somehow i talked him into putting the gun away. Sure enuf, down the road, this same asshole killed someone i knew. I heard recently he killed himself in prison. My buddy got me into this mess because of that trouble making girlfriend of his. I aint fighting for anyone anymore if they want to start with others. This whole Iraq bullshit was just that bullshit. Fighting for a bunch of greedy rich assholes. So if u want to believe we went over there to fight for those peoples freedoms then have at it. Ur a sucker. For those in the military who can't do anything about it then i feel bad for them cause they didn't join to be used like a pawn. This guy went over there to fight when he had all the info right in front of him was clueless. Why do u think guys like Cheney have five deferments. When guys like him that start wars start fighting in them, then maybe i will risk myself.

while I am also hopeful that we get away from our war mongering ways, I still laugh openly at angry, inhibited, classless, anti-semetic, narrow-minded persons like yourself, who hide in anonymity behind your keyboard criticizing anyone who does not share your every belief.

I realize you did not criticize troops. I shared because not everyone is seeking to better themselves or their position in life when they enlist. He felt he was doing the best thing for our country. He was certainly not seeking a career in the marines, nor was he in need if assistance with tuition.

Misguided or not, he is a hero in my eyes, and so are the rest of them.

You are entitled to your opinion. I agree in part.

Not all bad has come out of Iraq.I admit Afghanistan has probably or I should say more troublesome.

Now comparing your bad decisions in life to Americas foreign policy is actually quite laughable.
