.. of New Orleans or anywhere along the gulf coast.

Just got my electric power back about an hour ago after Katrina, a Cat. 1 hurricane skimmed us here in S. Broward county, FL. 3 days without power and mostly gfallen trees. DOwn in Miami heavy flooding in some places and many trees down. Folks, this sucker's eye skimmed us here and it was bad. I'm no stranger to hurricanes, having been thru the eye of Andrew in Louisiana when it was also a Cat. 1.

Anybody close to the path, please get out or get shelter immediately. You will regret staying. I'm not sure about the path of Kartina since have been out of commission for several days, but I hate to imagine those poor folks trying to weather it out. Simpley GET OUT OF DODGE or FIND SAFE SHELTER. You will be without power for days or weeks in the best case. This sucker can sweep you up like an ant. I went out backyard Thursday night in 80 mph winds and scared the chit out of me. Just, please get out.

Anyone who stays must be insane. If it hits New Orleans directly it would be the worst disaster ever in our country i'm afraid. Good luck down there. :(

It's gonna be bad......last I saw 184 mph winds. Don't know if those were sustained or just gusts but either way it's going to get ugly tonight/tomorrow in Louisiana/Mississippi/Alabama.

Agree with all of the above. Like JT mentioned, if this thing lands with the current winds, this will probably be the worst natural disaster in our history. It's currently at 175mph sustained with gusts up to 207 mph. If it hits New Orleans as the current path suggests, NO will be 10 feet underwater.

New Orleans or just west. They are going to get creamed, unfortunately. Hopefully Schouest and anybody else in that area is out of there.

On the course!
This could be the worst storm in the history of the United States. I have never seen anything that massive in the gulf before. IT FILLS THE WHOLE MAP!

I hope everyone down there is some place else right now......

cars are backed up in traffic trying to get out of NO and gas stations are out of gas. GTFO if you can.

Obviously this is pretty insignificant in the scheme of things, but my bachelor party was gonna be in new orleans this spring. I hope it's still there :scared

Just have to hope everyone who wants to get out, gets out.

A buddy of mine was having his bachelor party this Friday/Saturday in New Orleans, and then they moved it to Vegas like two weeks ago for some reason. Looks like it's a smart move.

I'm watching the satellite of this.... this just looks terrifying. I hope everyone is able to get out.

yeah, huge logjam. Taking 3 hours to go 15 miles. Cars overheating in the 90 degree weather clogging things up as well. Now the first feeder bands are arriving in NO which will screw things up even more.

Sustained 'down' to 167 with 202mph gusts.

Kosar/Nosigar-

Were either of you guys affected much by this? I've been watching that news station I linked and have been reading about this for the past hour or so. Some of the scenarios that are being brought up are just flat-out frightening.

Nosigar lives on the east coast, and over there they got a lot of flooding and as happened to him, loss of electricity. My sister also lost power for two days, and she lives about 40 miles north of where it landed. Southern Miami/Homestead got 18 inches of rain. It was supposed to skip directly over here, but moved south and drenched the Keys. Key West got 11 inches and tons of flooding.

Over here we got maybe 25mph winds for a day and very little rain, because it stayed south of here.

And that was obviously only a Cat 1. If it stays with winds like this, it will be incredibly bad, especially in NO, but also in many other places in Alabama, Louisiana and Mississippi.

Just read the latest from the National Weather Service. It usually reads in a dry scientific manner but it sounded like outright panic from them! I'm afraid many of those cajuns who live in the bayous will perish as I highly doubt they left unless i'm mistaken. Bad, bad, bad all around.

Schouest lives in Houma {according to his sign on} and that is on the banks already getting hammered.

Best wishes to any of these people down there!

Yes, Schouest lives there. We talk via e-mail every day and as of our last e-mail he was heading out of town and that was yesterday.

Hopefully he got out early and missed all the mess. He has my cell number and I am sure he'll call when he gets back home and sorts out the mess, which we obviously hope is minimal.

For those interested I will post when he let's me know.
