Today on his radio show, while discussing healthcare with a caller, Beck sounded like a spoiled 8 year old throwing a temper tantrum. This guy's coming unglued. :142smilie

he won`t be the only one...when some poor s.o.b. that worked their whole life and saved their money(maybe somebody on here`s mom or dad) isn`t given the o.k. to get a drug that keeps them alive and fighting a particularly pernicious form of cancer...when they aren`t allowed to put up the money out of pocket for the drug, what then?....

they die....

why do you think canadians come here for treatment?...why did italian president berlesconi come here for his heart surgery?....

you guys are gonna be cryin` the blues when the reality of stupidly forcing a humongous healthcare bill through congress without giving the time to investigate and discuss it`s pro`s and cons....

it`s amazing that many morans are so partisan that they aren`t even willing to take the time to flesh out a really workable health care...to use the common sense that one would use in buying a t.v. or an automoble.....

Whether or not the healthcare bill ruins our medical system, the poor SOB who saved his money is going to be screwed, because we are printing and borrowing so much money that the US dollar could be worthless in 10 years. Inflation is going to screw those who saved.

Good thing I spend all my money on booze.

i appreciate the response,im...but if a drug costs $1,000 a month or some treatment to delay blindness...or cpap equipment so a person can breath while they sleep....and the bureaucracy decides it`s too expensive given their age and condition, i don`t think they`ll be able to get it on their own...out of their own pocket.......

that`s ridiculous...that`s just not acceptable...

Weez, even though I think all your hypothetical gloom and doom predictions about Universal Healthcare are comical, I actually agree with you on the point regarding the way bills are ram-rodded through Congress. But when it comes to the legislative branch of our government, it's no secret the tail usually wags the dog.

why did the the italian pres come here ?? because we have the best healt care in the world . mccain said it best : we have the best HC but the price is to high..... the pres of italy came here because he could afford the best... what do you say to the sick poor that can't hop on a jet and get the best ????? The price of HC in America because it is such a HUGE part of our economy is standing in the way of our prosperity. I'm not for national HC but we can't win with what we have right now.. The auto ind is owned by gov and labor because of the price of HC..... Obama/left may be wrong about the future of HC but with out change, the right will ride this thing into the abyss... The price of HC has strangled our economy... I never voted for clinton but he and she were right about the escalating price of HC and what it would cost America. Forget where you are politically, the system as we know it, is not sustainable... I write my check for HC, this is crazy...The people that GIVE LIP SERVICE TO ; let the markets dictate, let capitalism work.... I'm a capitalist, our HC system is close to extortion. My sister works, way up the ladder in the HC system, she said to me : we have to get to a non for profit system if we care about health... this is from a woman that dose better than 90% of America..... I don't agree with her BUT : we can't continue down this road...

Do you have any solutions to the spiraling (up) costs of insurance and all facets of healthcare? Is it really ok with you to just let things go on indefinitely? Seriously? If not, do you have any ideas about what to do? I'm sure you've posted some things of value on this subject other than simple ridicule of any modifications to the current system, I just don't remember any right now.

I really don't think the current bills will pass through the Senate in any form that will cause serious change this year. But the good thing, in my opinion is that at least everyone is talking about it, and coming up with ideas and solutions - even (especially) those that currently are killing everyone else for their own personal/company profit and bottom line. I'd really like to hear any ideas you might have about holding the costs down. I think you are on record against the lawyers and lawsuits, which I agree are a part of the problem. But how about anything else?

Part of the reason everything costs so much IS because of the current system and everyone telling everyone that they can have as many services and procedures and drugs and X-rays and on and on without any ramifications for doing so. We pay more, the companies make more, the Insurance companies make a lot more, and charge us more, and on and on.

Maybe it would be an ok idea for someone other than a CEO and board to tell everyone what's ok for them to do, when all they have to do is pass the cost on to those of us already paying for it. Maybe a single body and structured framework for procedures, drugs, and healthcare in general might not be the worst thing for all of us? I understand there has to be some tough choices to be made here, but just ripping all other ideas without coming up with anything isn't enough anymore, I don't think.

More Americans going to Bumrungrad hospital in Thailand.
0319_bumrungrad.jpg

More and more Americans are checking into his hospital, though. Last year, 65,000 Americans went to Bumrungrad for in-patient or outpatient treatment, up from just 10,000 in 2001. And of those 65,000, about half of them were U.S. residents who flew across the Pacific to Thailand for medical care. (The others were American expatriates living in Thailand or other parts of Southeast Asia.) Many of the patients from the U.S. were uninsured, taking advantage of medical costs in Bangkok that are just a fraction of those in American hospitals.
http://www.businessweek.com/globalbiz/content/mar2008/gb20080312_918800.htm

As many as half a million Americans streamed abroad last year in search of affordable alternatives for hip replacements or prostate surgery. And they went not for the postsurgical tanning but for the savings: up to 90% off the going rates in the United States. They went because 47 million Americans lack insurance and can't pay for surgery to fix a bad back or clogged arteries. Or because they have insurance but can't begin to pay the soaring deductibles a major surgery entails. They're fleeing a system that is by far the most expensive in the world and growing more so by the hour, with diminishing returns in quality of care.
"Your options are paying $50,000 to $60,000 in the States or coming here and paying $8,000," says Toral, an American raised in North Carolina.

"That's the difference between putting it on your credit card or going into bankruptcy."

This is what's going on now. If they cover you this is what is called a medical loss for the insurance company. The person who denies you will get a bonus for doing so.

Speaking in the UK yesterday, former House Majority Leader Tom DeLay (R-TX) predicted that if a Democrat is elected president in 2008, he or she would seek to install universal health care, similar to the system in Britain. This possibility ?received thunderous applause.? DeLay claimed that, under the U.S. system, ?no American is denied health care?:

By the way, there?s no one denied health care in America. There are 47 million people who don?t have health insurance, but no American is denied health care in America.

The audience, understandably, greeted DeLay?s preposterous claims with ?derisive laughter,? according to the AP. A recent report showed that for the sixth straight year, jobholders continued to see a decline in employer-provided health insurance, with 38 states seeing ?significant? drops in benefits offered by employers.

Observers estimate that anywhere from one to 18 percent of Americans are denied health insurance because of pre-existing health conditions. These conditions can range from heart disease to high cholesterol to yeast infections to being too skinny. A few examples of Americans who were denied health care:

Texas resident Shirley Lowe was denied health care because her breast cancer was diagnosed at a medical center rather than a clinic receiving federal cancer-research funds.

New Orleans bus driver Emanuel Wilson was denied health care when the government refused to pay for his chemotherapy because he had had a job that had provided insurance ? a job he lost after Hurricane Katrina.

Thousands of 9/11 workers who worked at Ground Zero were denied health care when the federal government approved woefully inadequate funds to address the permanent health problems, such as sinusitis and asthma, associated with work at the site.

As Michael Moore?s film ?Sicko? showed so clearly, millions more Americans who have health insurance are denied the care they need due to insurers? ?cost-cutting strategies.?

total bullshit...quoting michael moore from "sicko"?.....cuba`s healthcare is better than ours?....it`s getting redundant pointing out the obliviousness of your hateful lunacy...

no one is denied health care in this country...walk into an emergency room and see if you`re turned away...

i have blue cross and i`ve never been turned down for one damned thing....

not once...ever...but,of course i have to work for a living...

ahhh..theres the rub,isn`t it...;)

Interesting Spy. No doubt that without Universal Healthcare, this will be a growing trend. But hey, as long as Weezil's got his Blue Shield, all's right with the world.

How does Weezil's story end you ask? Well, it's an ignominious end for our friend Weezil. Suffice it to say he looses everything in the end... his pension and health insurance first, then his home, his savings and all personal assets. He and his family are left homeless and penniless all because he rolled the dice, hoping Blue Shield would be there for he and his family from diapers to dentures. It didn't have to end this way for our friend Weezil of course. If only he'd opened his mind and his heart, the answer was right in front him the whole time -- Universal Healthcare. Alas, we shall all miss our friend Weezil. Bless his little neocon heart. :sadwave:

I've gotta go get a tissue now...
