Yes, DTB - Cheney's 5 deferments are much more commendable than Kerry's somewhat brief actual time serving in the actual war.

"He volunteered to go to Vietnam."
-- Bush campaign chairman Marc Racicot, yesterday [2/23/04], on National Public Radio

"No, I didn't."
-- President Bush, Feb. 8, responding to a question on NBC's "Meet the Press" about whether he volunteered to go to Vietnam

AWOL Bush is the true war hero. Hey DTB, what would Vietnam vets call Bush?

".)they also smeared a decorated war hero(KERRY) who couldve hid from combat the way our current commander -in- chief did, but he didnt."

--War hero my ass--.

He volunteered to be on ship off coast of Vietnam--then they decided to put several on patrol boats on rivers in VN--and it took him less than 3 months to get the hell out--via a splinter-a bruise-and small piece of shrapnel in his ass--which he got from his own ordinance being set off.

Now he may be your hero--but you can be sure most Vets have a diff word for him ;)

Hey dogs maybe you are right . If our government was so inept in VIETNAM WAR TIME not to track down GWB who shouldve been training for "possible" flight missions that I'm sure they awarded Kerry multiple medals for "actual "vietnam combat missions for absolutely no reason whatsoever with absolutely no fact checking to see if the splinter wound even healed- .
Its plausible, but I choose to believe they didnt just hand him the medals for no good effing reason.
It's ironic to me that the conservative right can call anyone they want un-patriotic for any reason and there's never a huge backlash, but if a conservative like Dogs attacks a guy who effing served his country in a combat zone its ok. And you guys do it over and over again .
Any conservative who wants to back GWB's service record and attack "ANY" guy who has served in a combat zone in any war or conflict is hypocrite in my book-PERIOD!!

I was speaking of Kerry --and the word hero

Have never defended Cheney's defers anywhere-Have defended GW to the point of enlisting is not dodging draft--but did avoid VN in those days.

--and yes ROC i can and will expose any goldbrick who pretends to be someone he was not.

--he was forced to go in country--and got out in 3 months on "wounds" a cub scout wouldn't be treated for.

and if you like i'll be happy to critque the rest of his awards--

That all stems from the period of the Reconstruction. The Republicans led by Lincoln were the liberals then, and all the conservatives were in the Democratic Party. Over time, the liberals moved to the Democratic Party while the conservatives migrated to the Republican Party.
One good example of this would be Sam Nunn, the Senator from Georgia. Lifelong Democrat, but a conservative in the best sense of the word, IE--strong on defense, fiscally conservative, etc etc.

i think that the change in both parties structure happened during the civil rights acts that johnson passed in the 1960's. i'm sure that most are aware of this especially those posters from the south. in the 1950's-& 1960's (not real sure of the years) there was a group of democrats who identified themselves as dixie-crats who were made up of conservative people.....ie..strom thurmond was one & even ran in the democratic primary for president (think it was 1948..but not sure). with the passage of the civil rights act...thurmond, helms, lott & others changed to the republican party, which became more to the right & the dems getting a major influx of minority voters started moving to the left. of course like 65 stated there are still conservative dems still around, but they are in the silent minority.

as far as Guilani goes- He could be the easiest of the REP candidates for the dems to defeat. He is very disliked in NY /NY city

al..

i don't know where you are getting your info from but i disagree with this statement.

as a person who lived in ny for 40 years i can tell you that rudy did something that most people thought could not be done. he dramatically lowered crime (crime was out of hand under the dinkins mayorship)......he cleaned up parts of nyc...ie...the times square area that became under previous administrations a cesspool for drugs & hookers...rudy made it again an attractive tourist destination. rudy also helped stabilize the nyc economy that was in chaos under previous mayors.

i still keep in touch with some people back in nyc....& eventhough they have different political viewpoints (firemen, civil service, insurance people, business owners) they know the positive effect rudy has had on this city....my brother who is a retired nyc school teacher is perfect example of this.he was very active in the teacher's union & as a union they were against rudy...but my brother voted for him because he saw first hand the job rudy did.of course there are some who who don't like rudy...but i think that has more to do with political idealogy than anything else.

i also disagree with you about him being the easiest for the dems to beat. with his almost liberal views on social issues & his tough stance on terrorism, imo he will get a few dems to vote for him. i'm not so sure he will get the republican nomination because of views on social issues...but if he does...i think he will be our next president....smurphy will owe my wife & i a dinner (no i didn't forget...lol).

murph...it's good to know that you could see into the future...i guess that's why you are doing well in your contest.

If by doing well, you mean I'm not sucking as bad as the other Americans in it, then thank you for the compliment.
