Was waiting for the pictures before I finished my story. I can barely believe the way this all played out! Maybe it's the positive energy from this thread, maybe it's something else, but the way this went down was straight out of a book.
We stormed into Westminster, Colorado over the weekend as the bottom seed. There were 2 teams in the tourney who we have faced once, in our first tourney back in April, and they both beat us by double digits. And they weren't the best in this tourney! But like I said, this team has a bit of a chip on its shoulder lately. We ended up going 5-0 and winning the whole thing. We had to be 400-1 odds.
But the best part of it all was that kid. He had still not scored in what ended up being 8 games. Now this kid went 49-50 in our shooting drill on Tuesday at practice! But in the games, he was still shooting air-balls. All I could say was keep shooting, when you finally make one and break the ice you may never miss again. So, on he suffers through 4 more games this weekend of not scoring, BUT, playing great D and rebounding.
Championship game, we're down the entire game, and we're down 6 with 6 minutes left. We bust their press, get it to him in the corner, and he drains a long jumper....YES! everyone yells....now we press, steal the inbound and get it to him for the hoop and the foul....he makes the free throw. We stop them, run a play for him and he scores with the foul again! They call timeout, but it does no good, we end up going on a 13-0 run and win the game by 4, all started by 8 straight from him. 40 or so of us went to dinner after the game, and I presented him with the team trophy as MVP. There wasn't a dry eye in the restaurant!
More pics will be in the album soon....he is #13 in the pics.
