U.S. stocks rose on Thursday, with the Nasdaq index hitting a record closing high, as corporate earnings and a rise in energy shares overshadowed soft U.S. economic data, while oil prices climbed to the highest levels of the year.

The gains pushed the Nasdaq above a record set in March 2000, the height of the dot-com boom. The index is up 353 percent from its October 2002 low after the technology bubble burst.

"It has the potential to go up, absent some external event that I can't predict." said Walter Price, senior portfolio manager and managing director of the AllianzGI Global Technology fund in San Francisco. "Companies look as though they ought to power through this environment."

In 2000, "a lot of the high-growth companies were selling at 200 or 300 times next year's earnings," he added. "This is nothing like that. This is a whole different world versus 2000."

U.S. House Speaker John Boehner said Hillary Clinton and former President Bill Clinton are good public servants but have explaining to do about their charitable foundation and said her handling of official e-mails as secretary of state broke the law.

?They?re good people, but there?s questions that have to be answered,? said Boehner. He was asked during an interview Thursday with Bloomberg Television?s ?With All Due Respect? whether the Democratic presidential candidate and the former president are ethically and morally fit.

Boehner was referring to issues concerning the Clintons? foundation and its acceptance of donations from foreign governments, as well as the former secretary of state?s use of private e-mail and server. He suggested the U.S. House could ultimately resort to issuing a subpoena for the server.

A stand-off on releasing some of those e-mails has become a flashpoint in a House select committee investigation into the September 2012 attack on the U.S. compound in Benghazi, Libya.

During the interview conducted at the U.S. Capitol, Boehner said there was a ?50-50? chance that Clinton could be elected president, yet wouldn?t say who he wants to be the Republican nominee.

Take the New York Times' big scoop on Thursday, which revealed that during her time as Secretary of State, Clinton signed off on a deal that helped strengthen Russia's grip on the worldwide uranium supply, an arrangement that greatly benefited a major donor to the Clinton Foundation. The scene takes place in Kazakhstan, where former President Bill Clinton was paid to fly out and praise a brutal dictator in front of a uranium mining and oil magnate who had done billions in business with the State Department. Money followed from a Russian investment bank.

Did the money flowing to the Clinton Foundation persuade Hillary Clinton to sign off on the deal? The evidence appears to say no. But it's still a problem because of what the move says about Clinton herself.

Throughout the Clintons' time in the public eye, we've been subjected to a parade of oligarchs and dictators, from Wall Street titans to Middle Eastern autocrats. Former Clinton operatives like Mark Penn, Lanny Davis and Dick Morris then go on to lobby for those oligarchs and dictators.

If you are who you surround yourself with, it's not hard to see why Clinton's campaign would rather we see her as a grandma. Indeed, Clinton herself seems to have internalized this view of herself. Penn is at Microsoft; Davis works in PR, not on the Clinton campaign, and Dick Morris hasn't been anywhere near the family for years. Ron Burkle, Bill's post-presidency billionaire buddy, is no longer a pal.

Olympic gold medalist Bruce Jenner came out as transgender in a Friday interview with Diane Sawyer on ABC's "20/20."
He also came out as a conservative.:142smilie
Sawyer, after highlighting issues of unemployment and workplace discrimination faced by the transgender community, asked Jenner if he cheered on Obama earlier this year when the president became the first to use the word "transgender" as he called for action on these issues during his State of the Union Address.
"He actually was the first one to say the actual word transgender, I will certainly give him credit for that," Jenner replied. "But not to get political, I've just never been a big fan -- I'm kind of more on the conservative side."
"Are you a Republican?" Sawyer asked.
Yes I am Skulnik , Jenner replied.

President Barack Obama poked fun at those who still suggest he is a Muslim during the annual White House Correspondents' Dinner on Saturday.

"Being president is never easy. I still have to fix a broken immigration system, issue veto threats, negotiate with Iran, all while finding time to pray five times a day," Obama said.

In 2012, 17 percent of registered voters said they believed Obama was Muslim, even though he is in fact a Christian.

-- Arkansas Governor Asa Hutchinson (R) warned Republicans on Sunday not to go too far in accusing Hillary Clinton of making decisions during her time as secretary of state based on financial donations made to the Clinton Foundation -- allegations that have popped up in a new book.

Responding to the Peter Schweizer book, titled Clinton Cash -- which alleges donations from foreign governments to the nonprofit influenced policy during Clinton?s tenure at the State Department -- Hutchinson said it "reminds everyone that everything about the Clintons is complicated."

But, he added, that the book shows ?no evidence of a quid pro quo.?

?Republicans need to be careful not to overstate the case, but it reminds us that the Clintons are complicated and they tend to make mistakes,? Hutchinson said on NBC?s ?Meet the Press? on Sunday.

Hutchinson added that the information in the book revealing an ?ungodly amount of money? being exchanged in certain transactions involving ?foreign sources? should be looked into.

However, the impact of the book, Hutchinson said, will only be felt among centrist voters deciding whether to support Clinton --:scared:scared the Democratic presidential front-runner.

?It doesn?t impact her base or the Republican base,? Hutchinson said of the book. ?It impacts the voters in the middle.?

In response to the book's accusations, the Clinton Foundation on Thursday said it would redo multiple tax returns, and on Sunday the foundation?s acting CEO, Maura Pally, admitted it had ?made mistakes.?
