I'm clueless about these things still use maps but my wife is bugging me to get her one.

What should I buy

Maybe this will stop her from trying to get me to get cell phone :mj07:

i can see a lazy 'in the home' salesman or UPS guy, FEDEX, etc. needing one but, come on, your wife certainly doesn't need one

maybe i'm wrong but i've been getting along just fine for 53 years and even have onstar for the last 8 years and have never needed it. which reminds me, i should cancel onstar tomorrow. what a rip; 8 years and i may have used it 3 or 4 times and i didn't really need to then.

get your free cell and throw it in the glove compartment

Anything by Garmin is what you want. No downloads or subscriptions - just plug it into your lighter and it works. It's more that just a map - it does so much more. I bought the Garmin Nuvi 250 w (wide screen)

I have the Garmin Nuvi 260. Don't use it alot, but when I do, can't beat it. Not a lot of bells and whistles, but tells and shows you where you want to go.

All GPS units are plug & play out of the box !! ALL GPS units need occasional downloads to be current on maps and firmware.

I bought the Magellan Meastro 4000 from Circuit City, (on sale) for $299.

Great unit, wide screen, lets you save ANY location that you visit for future trips.

Also has a neat function that allows you to create 'points of interest' on your computer, and load them to the GPS via an SD memory card.

If you have recently moved to a new city, or travel a lot, I think that a GPS is well worth the cost !!

are you busy with concrete

Whenever its not raining. I fortunately am tied in with a couple of big landscape companies that do high end patios, fire pits and outdoor kitchens. They just give me all of the concrete work on those jobs, and don't even get other bids. I'm in the middle of building a waterfall for a new apartment complex right now. It is definetely slower than it usually is, but I'm working everyday. Typically at this time of year I'm telling people I can be there in 6 weeks or more, but now its usually no more than 2. We have big concrete structure we have to build on a storm draingage project in about 2 weeks that will take the better part of June, so overall, we are doing OK.

How about you?????

I've been seeing the Tom-Tom gps units selling for $150 brand new. You can't go wrong with them.

Jack, these things are great when you are dyslexic and have to drive sometimes to different places for your job; my wife is very dyslexic and has trouble knowing right from left. When she has to do home health visits now, she just pops in the address, and it takes her right to the door. That's so much better than me trying to guide her on the phone.
