I bought a brand new stainless steel MANS grill a couple of weeks ago. After doing some major grilling since then I noticed that the outside is turning brown:eek: .
Does anyone know how to get this stuff off. I thought it was grease but it isnt. I figure that its because of the heat. Ive tried different things from the store but it wont polish up. My next step was to take steel wool to it but I dont want to ruin it.

I need some help here because I know the wife is gonna ask why I spent so much money on a grill that turns brown. I dont think she will believe it if I tell her that its suppose to be that way.;)

ELBOW GREASE & A SOFT SPONGE. Don't use the 'BRILLO PAD'! Smoke and grease along with heat is turning color. If it is stainless steel, cool it over night. This is part of the 'curing' process of your new grill. ....season with a little salt,...fresh ground pepper....BAM!!!

BADTODABONE....Should I just use soap and water? Or is there anything else to put on it.ie..409 degreaser. I remember reading to not use oven cleaner on it. I just dont want to stain the stainless steel.

I will have to pick up a case of elbow grease after work today. I believe its made by Anheuser Busch.:D

my manuel said to not use abrasives, use a stainless steel cleaner (you can find at the hardware store) but you have to clean it before you use it the first time. that's what they said. they said it turns tan in color. i doubt you'll get that out at this point.

I didnt clean it before I grilled the first time. Who would have thought you had to clean a brand new grill before you used it.

Answer: Me if I would have read the directions

But really now, who reads the instructions the first time you use your grill? Just throw some steaks or Johnsonville Brawts and go:D

Only thing I think I ever read the Intruction manual on was my TIVO and the box of condoms (definitely didn't want to use that thing incorrectly)

Just do some grillin and chillin and all will be fine.

I figured out what to do.. I stopped by the auto store on the way home and bought some high temp engine paint. I sprayed the grill and now you dont see the brown any more.

Just kidding.I got some brasso metal polisher and tried it on a small area. It took off the brown and shined it up real nice. Im gonna wait till Mon to finish it up cause I want to call the company that made the grill to see if this will hurt it at all.

MILD SOAP and A SOFT SPONGE, air dry. Do not use any chemical cleaner!!! ELBOW GREASE!!! You won't have to clean your grill with every use, CURE,n COOK. COOK n CURE. Maybe a green scrub pad with warm water AFTER your grill cools to remove smoke stains on the lid. GL and I like my ribeye med rare:D

Tried the soap and water elbow grease thing and wasnt making any progress (well at least not fast enough :D ) so I called Coleman. They told me to use a metal polisher.

I ended up using CLR stainless steel cleaner. That worked like a charm. It came off extremely easy and didnt stain or scratch at all.

Thanks for all the advice.

BADTODABONE...your steak will be done in 5 min.:toast:

Glad you found your solution solution. Missed the steak, settled for center cut chops, grilled corn on the cob, jalepeno links, BBQ grilled baked beans and a little garlic buttered grilled toast. Good Grilling to you!:toast:

BTJ...The thread was done till you bumped it back to the top. Where was it posted that the grill wasnt together?

Hell, you should be thanking me for starting this thread....because I saved you money. You probably didnt have time to place your usual losing wagers because you were to busy reading about my grill.

Now, stop your rambling and get yourself ready for school because the "little bus" should be pulling up in your driveway to pick you up. :thefinger
