MJB,

Please answer me this:

Why didn't these officials make the calls EARLIER when the score was 21 to 0??? Why not in the 2nd quarter? Why did they wait till 4 minutes left in the game? To increase ratings and add to the excitement?

Bad calls went BOTH ways that final 4 minutes. Yes, most went the Colts way, but that running into the kicker should raise a red flag in your mind and challenge the statements you made above.

Vegas Dave's points are very reasonable and simply make sense. If there's so much money to be had, you would think they wouldn't jeopardize it by waiting for the Colts to fall 3 tds behind! Especially against the Bucs defense. It just doesn't make sense.

MJB my results have changed since I come to realize that the opposite of the obvious is what seems to work in the NFL. I cannot cap the NBA, but the NFL it is all about business and selling the fan base tickets, helmets for the mantle, and jerseys and team jackets etc. No one team is to win for long and build a dynasty anymore. How many Emmit Smith fans just had to run out and buy a Cardinals Jersey with #22 on it and SMITH accross the back? Free agency is great for the economics of the league, IMHO! Yes this one smelled, fixed I don't know nor do I care, money management is key, DON"T EVER let one game make or break your season, and as far as one game or one day or one week, or even one month making or breaking a season or career, IT just don't work that way unless you let it do so.

You have had solid results in the ponies, and I respect your help there in the past.

This is different the best horse doesn't always win or cover.

Best of luck and health as we navigate down the highway of life.

Garden is right. . . I shouldn't continue to argue this as it won't resolve anything. I still feel bad for those of you who lost this game tonight as I do know how it feels. But I still do not believe it could have been fixed in this manner. I know that doesn't help those who lost this one.

If I was on the Bucs tonight, I may not be very rational and my damn TV might be out the window right now so many of you are doing better than I would!

And the weak running into the kicker call on Indy that allowed Tampa to continue their OT drive was just to make the fix look real? Was Tampa in on it too and purposely didn't gain those last 8-12 yards to get into FG range?

It is illogical to think that game was fixed. I will be the first to admit that games get fixed all the time, but this was not the proper setup. Fixed games do not go from routs to victories in the final 4 minutes. For this to be a fix, almost everyone on the field would have had to be involved. It would have to be one really big secret for this to keep happening, which it wouldnt. Someone would write a book, go to the media, whatever, and spill the whole thing. I agree its the National Fixed League, but this wasnt one of them. This was just one team running out of gas and playing like complete crap down the stretch. Nothing more, nothing less. Fixed games are tight all the way, and come down to one or a few strange calls/plays involving FEW or ONE individual. They are not choreographed mass efforts.

MJB-

the worst part is that i didn't watch the 2nd half when tampa was leading 21-0. i got drunk, came back and found out the final.

for what it's worth, i feel like someone just shot me in the stomach.

no, i feel like my heart is being cut out with a dull spoon.

no, wait. i feel like i am getting f'ed in the a**, with no lubrication, by a very large prison inmate in the shower, without a reach around.

this is the worst loss (not because of the money) that i have ever had in gambling.

congrats if anyone was on the colts. if i had been, then i would be really drunk right now and praying that there is no chance of lightning if i was going outside.

Sorry all, can't resist. . .and I have been on the other side of the worm in this instance. . . no, I have never said the game was fixed but sure it has crossed my mind from time to time because you don't want to think it was your bad handicapping or bad luck that caused a particular outcome. . . I simply lost and not from bad handicapping. . . its because this is sports betting and results are NEVER certain until everything is finalized.

MJB, no, I don't know how they would fix a game. . . except that if I did it, it wouldn't look so obvious and dramatic on MNF!

You may think that we are all stupid for not seeing what is clearly obvious in your eyes, but I would challenge that you are not thinking very rational right now given the fact that you lost your wager which looked like a sure thing at certain points and now you are trying to determine how it could possibly happen. But of course, it just HAD to be fixed right? I guess we are all fools (but rational fools) for thinking the outcome may have been based on something else.

In the end, I hear it all the time with dramatic comebacks like this. . . the word 'fixed' gets thrown around a lot when this happens like games are only fixed that have a dramatic twist at the end as to only draw attention to the fact that the game MAY have been fixed

Personally, I choose to believe that most fixed games (if you believe there are fixed games in the first place) draw very minimal attention from the public so that games can continue to be fixed down the road. . . but that's what you get with an ignorant fool like me with a Master's Degree! If not, then people would have already caught on a lot earlier than tonight like MJB has.

Sorry to those who feel this is garbage but MadJack will agree that the word fixed gets thrown around all the time when results like this occur with a dramatic flair rather than other results.

Since my name is "the fix is on", I feel a need to weigh in on this discussion.
This game will be talked about by everyone who saw it for a long time to come. Tomorrow at the water cooler, Joe Blow will ask his buddy if he saw what happened on Monday Night Football. It's entertainment! ABC couldn't put out a better promotional video. But was it fixed? Did both teams have a script that they were to follow throughout the game? Were the refs given that same script too? I doubt it. I think it was a game of momentum, over-officious officials, a team that was "spent" on defense, and a quarterback and a team that wouldn't say die.
No fix here, in my humble opinion. You couldn't have scripted this one.

Look Nickelback, I' m not sure what your motive is here. I'm proud you have a Master's Degree. What's that got to do with all the tea in China? It's nice of you to point it out for us all. So you win the paper war. I'm making a point that if you win a game like that you see it differently than if you lose one. Now Mr Einstein, For you info. there have been numerous proven case's of pointshaving, from college's who lost there program's to some of the most succesful, wealthy athlete's of all time. Ever heard of Pete Rose? How bout Michael Jordan? How about Universities like Boston College, Northwestern, Notre Dame. Look dude take your degree's and do a little research. You seem to want to make this persoinal. Well you can get it right here. Now, I started this thread to vent and tell my perspective. Sorry that offended your IQ. I've got people coming in here talikng about money management and how they would fix a game and yes friend, it is a little insulting. I'm not about to jump off a bridge over losing a ball game, I think my record here speak's for itself. My money management here speak's for itself. I post here to try and help people. Do you see me going pay? Do you see a hidden agenda? Am I not just as entitled to start a thread with my opionion as you are? Now it's really professional of you Dr. to try and shovel crap in someone's face when they just lost one of the most unbelievable game's in NFL history. Your a great guy. Sir

Fixed games

Fixed games

I made a comment in Jimezus's post from yesterday about fixed games... Here is my 2 cents. Soemone earlier said that the game was not fixed because it would have been a blowout much earlier. I do not truly believe that A game can be totally fixed unless a player on another team is just tossing it away, but there are ways to fix and they occur in the NBA more than any other league and it probably occured to a certain extent tonight. WHAT ARE PRO SPORTS ALL ABOUT?? MONEY AND RATINGS RIGHT. IF THE LEAGUE DOES NOT HAVE GOOD GAMES ON TV THEY DO NOT GET MULTI-MILLION/BILLION DOLLAR CONTRACTS FROM THE TV NETWORKS SUCH AS ABC. So, that being said if a game gets out of hand every jo shmo out there, except the dgenerate gamblers turn the televisions off the game and turn on Leno, letterman, or late night seinfeld re0-runs whatever you prefer. HERE LIES THE ISSUE. ITS ALL ABOUT THE NETWORKS WORKING WITH THE NFL CREATING REVENUE FOR GAMES AND MASSIVE TV CONTRACTS TO KEEP EVERYONE RICH. IT HAPPENS ALL THE TIME IN THE PLAYOFFS IN THE NBA. THEY HATE IT WHEN SMALL MARKET TEAMS DO WELL AND THAT IS WHY THE LAKERS ETC.. ALWAYS GET THE CALLS. BUT A KEY EXAMPLE THAT I WOULD LIKE TO POINT OUT WAS WHEN THE BULLS WERE UP ON THE SONICS 3-0 IN THE NBA FINALS MORE THAT SEVERAL YEARS BACK. THAT GAME 4 WAS RIDICULOUS ADN EVERY CALL WENT TO THE SONICS AS I RECALL B/C THE NBA HAD TO KEEP INTEREST AND WOULD MAKE MORE MONEY IF MORE GAMES WERE PLAYED. I DONT BELIEVE THAT THE TOTAL FIX IS IN BECAUSE THE PLAYERS STILL HAVE TO PLAY THE GAME, BUT THE OFFICIALS CAN CERTAINLY DO THEIR BEST TO PLEASE THEIR SUPERIORS AND KEEP THEMSELVES COMFORTABLE IN THEIR JOBS. I TRULY BELIEVE THAT THEIR IS SOME TWEAKING THAT GOES ON IN THESE GAMES WITH REGARDS TO HOW AND WHY REFERRES MAKE CALLS WHEN THEY DO. JUST THINK ABOUT THE IMPLICATIONS, ITS ALL ABOUT THE BIG BUSINESS MACHINE, CORPORATIONS, POLITICS, AND MO MONEY MO MONEY MO.

I don't think the game was fixed and I think those who claim that NFL games are fixed are being paranoid and pathetic in those assertions. I don't give two craps how much money you *allegedly* make or lose gambling. It is just plain stupid to assert that a game like tonight was fixed. Especially when you have an overrated defense that is notorious for tiring giving up late points. Happens all the time.

That said, me ol' professional wrestling background tells me that things are fixed for one reason and one reason only: to draw money. Games like this draw money for the NFL in the long run. So if you want a reason why the NFL would fix a game to play out like tonight's game played out, there it is.

don't believe this game was fixed either....just think it was one of those occurances that happens in sports betting. I've been doing this for 10 years now, and I can't even recall all of the weird things and "bad beats" that have gone against me because there have been too many....but I decided long ago that if indeed games are fixed, the only thing I can hope for is to be on the right side of those fixes as much as I'm on the wrong side. You can't control things if they are indeed fixed...so you have only two courses of action....quit sports betting....or develop a thick skin to all of the crap you are going to be subjected to sports betting and take the good with the bad. I understand you're venting MJB, because I have been on here many a night and done the same after a bad beat....actually believe I was on here yesterday after my philly game flew south on me and vented a little ;) Hope a couple of days off will help ease the pain and you'll stick around....I enjoy reading your posts....good luck!!
