The guy had better stats than I thot he did, but can't figure this one out......... Off the top of my head were Dick Allen, Dale Murphy, Dave Parker, Omar Vizquel and Al Oliver eligible for this committee to select? I'm sure there are others more worthy than Baines. Just asking

He finished his career with 2,866 hits, 384 home runs and 1,628 RBIs. His career RBI total is 30th all-time; prior to his induction, he had the ninth highest RBI count among retired players not elected in the Hall of Fame; his hit total ranks 41st all-time.

Oh, I knew he had good numbers and baseball unfortunately is so offensively career number driven when it comes to picking people for the HALL. I just think that Dick Allen, Dave Parker and probably some others who were FEARED offensively and played good defense during their prime should also be there waiting on Harold Baines to join the club. Just like I never could figure out Ron Santo's absence :0008

He belongs in the....hall of a very long career that influenced his rather pedestrian numbers.....

Not the hall of fame

One of the reasons I started this thread was not to trash BAINES (he actually had better numbers than I at first thought). I want to know if the others I mentioned aren't eligible to be voted in by this group, since I thought all of them were equal or better than BAINES during their careers........Murphy especially since he was almost a direct contemporary and had MVP's although a shorter career

White Sox retired his number 12 years before her retired. Guy was clutch. Happy for him but he happier if everyone stopped shitting on him.

Great...some shitty organization retired his number while an active player (speaks to how shitty they are)

22 year career....hall of famer?

Mvp? Guy finished 9th...ONE TIME....6 years into his career

Home run hitter? Guy hit more than 25 in a season ONE TIME

RBI machine? 100 rbi...3 times....in 22 YEARS....once after year 6

Perennial all star? 6 times....in 22 YEARS

Base Stealer? 34 steals...in his ENTIRE CAREER

Wizard in the field? Not sure he owned a glove the last 15 years

Led the leauge in something? WINNER....led the al in slugging % in 1984....thats once in 22 years to lead his leauge in anything....ba/op/slg/2b/3b/hr/rbi

Basically I think LaRussa and Reinsdorf got everyone in that room drunk and then took a vote to elect this guy.

Hey, I don't begrudge BAINES for getting in for his longevity, decent stats, and being a good guy, but what about the others I mentioned? Since I'm a Pirate and NL follower, I never followed BAINES career at all. It just seems at times in their careers Dick Allen & Dave Parker were FEARED, along with Dale Murphy. Al Oliver got cheated out of 3,000 hits due to being platooned and later on collusion. Thanks for all the comments :0008

He?s in. Me and the guys that get to vote think he deserves to be. You and some other people that don?t vote don?t think he belongs.

Carry on.

The guys that actually vote never gave him more than 6%....ever.

Some randomly put together of 16 cronies decided in one year he was worth the 75% vote amongst those 16. Nothing against the guy personally but if anyone truly thinks he's a hall of Famer hen they need more buildings in cooperstown to accommodate the others better than him who've never sniffed inclusion

Are these the same voters who waited till RON SANTO died before they put him in? I'm no fan of Cubs or Santo, but always thot it was a crime to omit him. he had the stats plus served baseball well when his playing days were over.

He was a good player not great as this information here shows. Hall of Fame just gave a lot more guys hope to get in someday when their peers are voting too. The Hall should be about what you did, not who you know. That is why the real ballot is spread amongst so many different voters. Not 16 who were chosen to make things right for some in the past more deserving. In this case they went back a step.

Well said WINEGUY. Makes BB HALL seem like local high schools' (not always athletic) HALL OF FAMES or WALLS OF FAME.
