This is what brought me back here for the first time in months, lol. Harold Baines IS NOT a Hall of Famer. If I was to put in a DH I would vote for Edgar Martinez before him. As for Pete Rose, Shoeless Joe Jackson deserves to be in before him.

U must be trying to punk us. Rose had far better numbers. Jackson should be in too though. His Black Sox involvement never really was proved and many think disproved. Both should be in. It?s like having a NBA HOF without Wilt Chamberlain in it.

Punk you?
Anyway, the difference is Shoeless Joe was guilty of association with the other Black Sox. Is it 100% proven he took the money? No. Did he know about it? Maybe. If so a lifetime ban for not being a rat? Pete Rose knowingly and arrogantly broke the rules.

Pete Rose and Shoeless Joe accepted lifetime bans. Making both ineligible to get voted on for Hall of Fame.. Most articles and books I read, if Pete didn't thing he was bigger than the game of baseball and had shown some contrition and admitted he bet on games back when it happened things may have been different for him.

Genuine question as you no doubt have studied this more than me. What did Rose get out of it? Why would he agree without receiving something in return?

From what I understood at the time, Pete accepts HOF ban and MLB doesn't release info on what they learned of Pete's gambling habits.

It was known in baseball circles since the 1970s that Pete Rose had a gambling problem. Although at first he bet only on horse races and football games, allegations surfaced in early 1989 that Rose was not only betting on baseball, but on his own team. Major League Baseball Commissioner A. Bartlett Giamatti began an inquiry, and hired Washington lawyer John Dowd to head the investigation. Dowd compiled hundreds of hours of testimony from numerous sources that detailed Rose?s history of gambling on baseball while serving as the manager of the Cincinnati Reds, including betting on his own team.

Although Rose continued to proclaim his innocence, he was eventually persuaded to accept a settlement that included a lifetime ban from the game. At a subsequent press conference, Giamatti characterized Rose?s acceptance of the ban as a no-contest plea to the charges against him.

In 2004, after years of repeated denials, Rose published My Prison Without Bars, in which he finally confessed to gambling on the Reds, though he added that had always bet on the Reds to win. Because of the lifetime ban, Rose cannot work in Major League Baseball and, despite his stellar playing career, he is not eligible for the Hall of Fame.

he used to do a show that was broadcast here at the beach.Week after he would say he never gambled on baseball and blah blah blah.

Years earlier than that he would be a guest on the local show here and make the same claims then.

I would tell the local host that Bart and and Dowd didn't pull these reports out of thin air and Pete had done what no player AND what no manager could ever do ..Wager on the the game of Major League Baseball or any of its other teams. He would tell me like all the other Pete Rose worshipers that Petey Boy would NEVER do anything to tarnish the game.

18 years of listening to Pete lie and his worshipers clamor for his inclusion into the Hall of Fame.........

Runners on first and third ...2 outs ....Pete has $5,000.00 on who.......

Remember...#1...it doesn't matter ....number #2....he lied for 18 years...
