it was early 70's. i am a vietnam army vet and became part of the disenfranchised around then, had the long hair, long beard beat clothes. my buddy and i were on our way from connecticut to ohio to meet up with a couple of girls who were living out there. travelling on the pennsy pike. we had a case of wine with a couple of the bottles opened and were cruising along pretty quickly. also had a stash of pot pretty well hidden. we got stopped for speeding but i am sure we were not going that fast. had a vw which was a target in itself. we were arrested after a search of the vehicle for speeding (driver nor i was dui). they took our case of wine.
when we were returned to the vehicle the two troopers decided to do a more intensive search and found the pot. they were pissed because we had already been processed. i said something like "hey, we never gave you permission to search". i was sending a signal that the pot would be a difficult thing for them at that point to push. what i got was a beating. they took the pot and told us to get the f**k out of there without stopping again in pennsy. carried the bruise from the flashlight for a couple of weeks as well as the groin kicks the prick gave me when i fell. true story. i think if i kept my wise mouth shut i would have at least saved myself the beating.

I wonder if it would have been any differant
if you would have said....

"Officer, I know you want to do your job, but I do not consent to any searches of my private property"

Probably not. I have also seen some pretty dispicable things done by police officers.

I guess there is good and bad in everything.

here is how to piss a cop off and prob. get away with it.

I was heading to R.I. and was pulled over by a State Trooper for absolutely nothing. At least in my opinion. He said something about not using my directional or something if I remember correctly. Anyways, Im stone sober completely cognizant and he asks me to get out of my vehicle. I ask him why? respectfully.. he says, "because I asked you to." Ah ok. So I said I would rather not. He then pulls the "Have you been drinking?" or under the influence of drugs etc. bullstuff... so I respond by saying "No sir." he then says I am ordering you out the vehicle..blah blah blah. does the whole sobriety test ..breathalyzer etc. Warrant check..comes up with Zilch... he then asks me If he can check my vehicle? I pause...then look at him and say..."Yes you can check my car..inside only. I dont want you going in my trunk though." he then looks at me absolutely bullshi*. Why cant i go in your trunk?" I said, "because I dont want you to and you need a warrant to do that."...

Needless to say the Cop was PISSED beyond belief. It was an interesting interaction to say the least.

Moral of story...Always be aware that in the case of a CONSENTING SEARCH you can limit the search. YOU HAVE A RIGHT TO.

believe me scott, i am nowhere "anti-cop". these guys have a tough job. besides the duty of law enforcement they are asked to be "instant lawyers". i can't ask them to both protect my children and be correct on all issues of rights protection at the same time. i will take my children's protection any time. they have it 98% right and i will take that.

I agree Toma.

they do have a tough job and I would not want to do what they do day in and day out. But if I did, I would do it with the utmost respect for other human beings I rousted everyday.

I took a nap this afternoon and dreamed that I was a cop. I stopped this vehicle and when I approached the car I noticed it was onetrickpony aka Bobby. I ordered him out of the car, sprayed him in the face with mace, pulled my taser and shot him in the balls with 10,000 volts. He was flopping like a fish and begging me to shoot him..

I pulled out my service revolver....

then I woke up.

Me and 2 other college friends from the team were travelling to goto a basketball game and a small town cop pulls us over for failure to yield or something.

Anyways, he does the normals and then proceeds to ask us, "Do you mind if I have you step out the car and search."--We're all like, LOL, ok...like we're gonna tell him now. Kinda irrelevant question.

Anyways, nothing was suspicious or anything, was just kinda weird he asked that.

Anyways, he gets done searching and finds nothing obviously and all he has to say is, "Coulda chose a better choice of music." -And sends us on our way.

I will tell you one thing about cops I have learned and it has never failed me.

If when they approach you they are wearing black gloves.

Do not pass go, do not collect 200 dollars, keep your mouth shut and get out of there as fast as you can.

My first 4 times I ever got pulled over, I got a ticket every time. Only 1 time could I ever to this day admit I deserved a ticket. Ever since then I lost all hope and faith in cops and they just annoy the hell out of me.

I have gotten I believe 2 tickets since then in a span of 2or3 years.

Now, I get critisized for being a slow driver. Hey, sure beats doing what I was doing before.

KNOCK KNOCK on wood plz.

Kansas City area for who knows how long....
Some cops say after you refuse search: "I could go to the judge and get a warrant". I then say "If you have probable cause, you wouldn't need the warrant--I didn't study law for nothing!".

one off duty cop told me he always hadda ask folks if he could search, in this town, but liked to hear the "no" answer so he wouldn't have to go through with it.

In the stop it's best to not move after you bring your car to a stop. Just sit still until cop gives instructions. Moving around to dig out your license and registration and such will make them nervous and suspicious.

True story. A few years back when the Bears visited the Cowboys at texas stadium me and a few more of my friends from Chicago which had flown in were out tailgating in the blue lot. Well some guys in the lot about three cars down are smoking a blunt and we are throwing the ball around and such and they are kind of giving us some grief but not much. Well one of my buddies takes a few hits and such and yada yada yada a couple of the young little whipper snappers start getting uppity when the football flys into the open door of dudes elevated ass redneck pick up. I am over there tell the guy "Hey kid relax, nothing happened to your truck and all that and for some reason he goes screaming away and jumps on my friend Keith's back. Well Keith is probably the second best fighter I have ever know on any hockey team I have ever been on, me being the best of course, and he proceeds to pound this kid relentlessly, all the while telling him what an idiot he is for picking a fight he can't finish, and the cops show up. There is a little bit of mayhem for a while and in the mean time I go get my football out of the truck and this cop is like "Hey, did I tell you to get anything out of your truck"?
"No, why were you supposed to"?
"You don't do anything unless I tell you to, you got it?"
At which point I hold up the football and reply, "Yea I got it. I t was right on the floorboard, thanks for asking in such a pleasant manner"?
"I don't have to be pleasant smart ass, how about I give yoru truck a search?"
"Sure Sunshine. go ahead!"
He starts rippin this truck apart throwing shit all over the parking lot and the bloody ass kid is like "Hey what the hell are you doing?" And of course the stupid lawless cop about cracks him and tells him to shut up and sit his bleeding ass down. In the mean time more cops show up and the cop searching the truck of course finds pot and other contraband and sets it on the hood of the truck, so as he is conversing with the other cops he tell the one cop to arrest me for possession.
I'm like "Possession of what"?
This freak spins around at me looking madder than Fuhrman at a FEMA rally, "Possession of this dope I found in your truck hot shot!"
"Thats strange because my truck is at home in the driveway, I don't know who's truck you found that in, but it damn sure isn't a Champagne gray F250, chief"!
"Huh"
"I said. thats not my truck cheif"
"well then why did you give me permission to search it?"
"I figured if you were willing to drive all the way to Fort Worth to look at my truck I wouldn't have to sit here and listen to your crap about speaking when I am told and all that other tough cop crap you were spewing and we would be able to enjoy our football game without further aggravation from children or other Cowboy fans, cheif"
"quit calling me dheif, I'm no cheif"
"Small wonder"
"your pushing it"
"need directions to my driveway still?"
"Let's go Bill"
"thanks officers"
They arrested the Cowboy fan that owned the truck.

Hope that helps,
FDC

This was exactly the situation I was looking for from someone. So when you said that he didnt pursue it any further , right ?

He let you go. He did not get a warrant , or call the drug dogs, or try to convince you further ?

thanks
