14 yearold dobie, long life for a purebread, do I take her to the vet, or take her out to the back 40 ???/i think i could do it, she cannot walk, i have to use a log carrier to get her out of the house. i am just wondering if a bullet in the head is more humane thatn a shot from the vet ???p.s. i rescued this dobie from the pound 12 years ago, she has had a great life, she has a hard time with the fact that she cannot keep up with our others anymore....tough decision, appreciate your imput tia

i think injection from the vet but i don't know, man. i feel for you....it's losing part of your family.

if i knew i had to go, i would pick injection over a shot to the head so that's why i go that way.

feel bad for you.

I would in no way put down my own dog. This isn't Ol' Yeller, and she doesn't have rabies. Sorry about your soon to be loss, but please, take her to the vet.

If you have to pull that trigger more than once (and you likely will), it will haunt you the rest of your life.

What kind of retarded fu*king question is that anyway???

Couldnt even fathom doing that to my dog :nono:

You did the right thing choosing the vet. We had two put down over the years and it's probably the hardest thing I've ever done.

It's against the law to put a domestic animal down yourself in most states. It has to be done by a licensed official. Vet, animal control or such. It's also illegal to put one down by shooting it. You will get arrested for cruelty. They use a drug that acts like an overdose of anesthetic. They lose consciousness and die within minutes. They don't feel pain, fear, suffocation, or stress. They are literally 'put to sleep'.

??? damn I leave for a few days and I come back to 1965....go to the vet!

I know you are new here, but no one is allowed to be more redneck than 6/5 (said with love clint).

thanks, dawg! Yep, I would never even think about putting down my own cat or dog. I hate to even give them pills or trim their nails. Now, a feral cat on my farm is another thing altogether.

a vet, they do a good job. had to put a dog and a cat down by taking them to the vet. they just go sleep and the suffering end.

then go and get a new dog after a while. got a new border coalie, from the city pound 8 months old. need a home with a huge backyard :) so it was a good fit.

thanks

thank you so much - you have now given your loyal companion a dignified painless death and I'm sure she has given you enough love to justify that...sorry again for your loss

At First I said What a DICK. But I understand what you are going through. It still bothers me 15 years later when I had to put my dog to sleep. Good Luck!!!!!
