not sure who is exactly defending him but it's sickening that the cop actually had more defenders.

is he a tool? probably

what exactly was he doing? who knows, looks like filming the situation...just like the people who have THESE videos

did the cops need to bee line over and arrest him? maybe-maybe not

did the cop NEED to shoot a dog on a leash multiple times? absolutely not........weren't there 4-5 cops making the arrest, wasn't the dogs owner right there, don't the cops have clubs or taser guns, wasn't the dog on a leash with a stop sign pole right there, was the dog a pit bull????

there were so many options to get this dog under "control".....and I use that term loosely because as a dog person, that dog was NOWHERE near out of control.......and the cop chose to shoot the dog????

You can choose to put the fault on the person that made a split second decision with a 100+ pound dog lunging at them, and I will choose to put fault with the person that walked around a fucking standoff for 5 minutes videoing and yelling at the police.

...im just glad I wasn't there as I don't know what I would have done.

Count me out watching the video too, but I did watch the interview of the owner where the shooting was blurred or not shown.

Rotweillers are great and loyal dogs. That dog did what he innately knew to do and that was attempt to protect his owner. Fuck that guy for getting his dog killed. He was trying to be hood, and that got his dog killed, so fuck him. :0008 stupid jackass!

Don't mean to jump back into this discussion, but the Supreme Court has ruled this year that filming the police is NOT a crime. And this guy was 100 feet+ from them when he was doing his posturing. He was not disrupting their ability to do their work AT ALL. The two cops that approached him were standing around basically doing nothing, why didn't they ignore him? Or if they wanted to approach him, to get him to "shut up", they could have just professionally walked up to him and TALKED with him. Why did they even handcuff him (which by the way he turned around to be handcuffed as they approached cause he knows how this shit works).

If cops can't navigate dealing with people acting annoying 100+ feet from a crime scene without arresting and shooting a dog, there are plenty of other lines of work they might do better in.

I suggest watching the video up until the point they handcuff him to see how they respond to people that annoy them. And just to reiterate, being annoying is not a crime; if it was I would be in some serious shit.

There were plenty of others around the scene videoing and none of them were even spoken to by the police, why? Leaving out that he was walking around a 100+ pound Rottweiler while yelling at the police, and then stating "He was not disrupting their ability to do their work AT ALL" does not add up. The two officers that arrested him walked right past him in the beginning of the clip while he was recording and said zero, nothing, zilch. It wasn't until he started yelling at the officers that they did something. Now if you do not believe that someone yelling at you while handling a 100+ pound Rottweiler is distracting in a standoff situation, then I think we can agree to disagree.

Too much focus here on the events leading up to the dog being shot. Had the owner sufficiently secured the dog in his car this would not have happened. At the end of the day the owner of a dog is responsible for securing them. Yes it sucks but when a big dog gets loose and threatens to attack it must be out down. Again, all the events leading up to it can be debated but the simple fact is that had the owner secured him properly the dog would not have gotten free and he would not have gotten shot.

Hmm... I feel like I do not have a bias in cop vs citizen YouTube videos. I come down on both sides depending on the information at hand. I can liken this situation to my own work. Sure, it's not illegal for family members to be in the room whenever they want at the hospital, but if I'm trying to dress a decubitus ulcer on grandma's butt, changing daddy's gangrenous stinky foot ulcer, or changing out sister's colostomy bag, then I ask the family to step out. I'm trying to do my job. I see no difference here if the cops asked this jackass to not interfere. I'm sure it was his smart mouth that got him not his filming.

If everybody respected their fellow man and their job, a lot of things wouldn't happen. Leave the fuzz alone here with whatever this standoff is, and your dog is still chewing on his toys at home. Simple.

Agree that respectable behavior is usually met in kind. You get out of life what you put into it etc.
And I recognize the wisdom with which you use your discretion at your job. You use common sense. At my job, my decisions are even less important, usually just resulting in my company either making more money or less money (depending upon the wisdom of MY discretion). And I try to be careful and use common sense.

The discretion that law enforcement officials wield is pretty fucking powerful and grave if done improperly!!! If they overreact they have just ruined someones life (arrest record, jail-room mishaps, killed dogs, killed PEOPLE etc.)

With that in mind, I think it is entirely appropriate for arm-chair citizens like myself to be pretty skeptical of law enforcement upon seeing videos like this.

In summary, because of the power that police officers have, they need to be smarter, more circumspect, more measured with their discretion than they sometimes are in these videos. Certainly smarter and more careful with their jobs than I am about mine (and I take my stupid office job seriously) That's what gets me pissed off about this video.

See my original comment that just because a police officer is within regulations to fuck with an idiots life, doesn't mean that they SHOULD!
