The GM was probably on his knees in the Service Dept. praying you'd take 'the bait' when they made the free ride offer...HELL yes that's what they wanted!
yup, they wanted me to leave the car for 2 days and let me have the loaner for free. :mj07:

I'm glad Americans are too lazy to use a 2$ tooth brush. Laziness at its finest.

I do find it interesting that people will pay x amount of money for luxuries (cell phones, gambling, trips, food, insert whatever here) but will balk at an 800 dollar crown on something that helps them eat. If you were to break it down to $/year of service...it's amazing. So you'll pay 30-50k for an automobile but spending 1k on a tooth you've used your entire life is not doable. I guess people value cars and possessions more than their own teeth. :sadwave:

Funny you should mention crowns. Had the work done this AM. 2 hours in the chair not my favorite place to be but worth it in the long run!! :toast:

here's where you're wrong. I don't balk at anything that needs to be done. I do balk at a dentist (expert in their field) telling a person they need thousands of dollars in restorative work when functionally, there is absolutely nothing wrong with their teeth. Many people do not question the doctor/dentist and put their blind trust in them. Not me or anybody that is smart.

Amalgam fillings do not need to be replaced with tooth-colored fillings unless there is decay involved. Every back molar does not need a crown. I also would never pay 30-50 k for a car. Lots of toothless people around here that couldn't afford those extravagant dental bills, so they had to have their teeth pulled.

You're exactly right that it's mostly their own fault, but I'm pretty appalled on how many parents do not take care of their children's teeth and never take them in for routine cleanings.

Saint, I like you, and I think you're a great poster here. I'm speaking in generalities and from my experience. I'm sure you're very honest and never do any procedure that isn't absolutely necessary. My dentist would crown all of my teeth and do veneers if I would let her, lol, and my teeth are already very nice. She's a little crooked in my book, but she's hot, and I really like her, so I continue to go, lol! I just tell her no, I'm not having that stuff done. :142smilie I have a very good poker buddy who is a dentist that agrees with everything I have just posted.

I agree 100%. In fact, I think it speaks volumes that I still have amalgam in my mouth. I've seen amalgams that are 40 years old and functionally sound. Can't say the same for resins (tooth colored materials).

Unfortunately, there are some dentists out there that prey on people in the same way mechanics do. When someone doesn't know any better and is almost forced to trust you without any other options...bad things happen. I wish people would seek out 2nd opinions more because there are some schiesters out there. I treat patients like I would my mom, dad, child...those of us who do wish everyone would.

u know any honest mechanics in Bowling Green? :mj07: I got a brake estimate on my '89 Mercury last year for new brakes for 520 bucks. I said no thanks, car's not even worth that! :mj07: I got a local crackhead to do it in his yard (I took him all the materials) for a little more than a hundred bucks, and the work is just fine.

I would agree with the above...

There are good vets, mech and dentists. I finally found a good dentist that is reasonable, our vet is okay, she always wants to do blood work on my cocker spaniel, I work for a vehicle leasing company, so our fleet maintenance department takes care of me when I have my vehicle in for repairs, they have saved me thousands of dollars.

here's one on vets that I've posted before.

My vet wanted to do blood work on my last 2 cats before the male got neutered and the female was spayed. My response both times was the same. These are cats, and they are young and healthy. Why do they need blood work. Vet said because they might have renal failure that could affect the anesthesia. I asked how common it would be for a seemingly healthy kitten to have kidney failure. He said very uncommon.

I then said that was what I figured. I left the conversation with saying, "you know, I've had a vasectomy, a back surgery, an appendectomy, and a neck surgery. NEVER did I have my blood drawn before the procedures. If a human doesn't need their blood drawn, why does a cat." :mj07: He couldn't say much then and just asked for me to sign the declination to do lab work paper  for my cat. What a joke. :nono: Consumers beware!
