Jack,
I am a sys admin by day, so computers are my gig. I can tell you immediately that Windows 98 is a BIG no-no :nono: in the business world. It is a very unstable OS. Its fine for the internet surfer at home, but for a business you need to get win2k or XP. These are both "business class" operating systems that are far more stable. While they may look similar to '98, whats under the hood is quite different. If a program crashes in win2k or XP its no big deal - you can just kill that app and move on. But, if the same happens in '98 the entire operating system will most likely crash and need a reboot. And don't get Win ME either. It is based entirely off of the '98 kernel. Hope this helps.

Dont get Win2K, its almost as unstable in certain environments as XP. No reason if you are going to upgrade to not go to XP.

thanks for the replies, guys, but i'm not getting anywhere at all and things are getting worse.

for instance; i typed out that first sentence (am i'm a SLOW typer) and when i was finished, i had to wait for it to appear.

usually, when i type a letter in, it responds immediately. not now!

also, when i scroll down in the forum here or any website, it hangs, then goes nuts all of a sudden.

if i try to copy something, it takes about 5 seconds for the highlight to appear.

if i change to another internet window, it's blank for about 5 seconds. i guess IE is not responding like it should?

i have norton virus completely updated and ran 2 scans that came up clean.

i only have this problem typing in IE6. no problems in my outlook express on any of my desktop programs.

any suggestions? i can't surf around like this and am about ready to throw this fuker off my deck.

i have a P2 gateway with 128ram. just ran scan disk and defrag this morning too.

tried running without any programs in the background and that didn't help either.

tried the 'fix' IE (msinfo32) someone mentioned in another thread and it didn't help.

help!
