It's going to be hauling 3000-5000 pounds in a 7x14 enclosed trailer.

I don't want to lend my Avalanche to the crew for obvious reasons.

I don't want to spend a lot but I don't want to have a lot of problems either.

I'm thinking in the $10,000 to $15,000 range and hoping for closer to $10,000. This is going to be a work truck exclusively.

TIA :0008

You aren't hauling a particularly large amount of weight so you don't need a diesel but if you want a truck that will run forever. The. A diesel is the way to go. In your case i would look for a simple Ford F150. That or an old Silverado. The Toyota Tunda is an excellent vehicle but they are not sold as often. In honesty dude I would look for a 2006 ford f250 super duty diesel and you should be able to do routine maintenance for 200,000 miles.

Thanks man, sounds good.

You're driving a diesel, what one?

I know I'm getting an older one with my budget so I'm confident you know your trucks.

Appreciate it.

Waiting on replies :popcorn2

Yes and that is too much truck for what you need bro. The tires alone would run you $1600. Stick with the F250. Also make sure the rubber in the truck you buy is good. Tires are a heavy expense. Stick with the Michelin 10 ply tires if you'll be dragging a load or trailer and driving in weather. Keep in mind I put 43,549 miles on my truck in the last year towing the boat from Cali to Fla four times already so you won't put as much research into the tires as I did. Just take my word in it

I only pull about 4300 pounds unless the boat is loaded down for some long trip. I made the HUGE mistake of buying a gas operated truck a year ago. It's on the market now and I will never go back to gas. I'll pay the extra money for the diesel and the peace of mind.

What FDC said is probably exactly what you need.

I have a F-550 diesel with a dump body that I drive every day. I haul 2-3 tons and it runs and handles like a dream.

I also have a F-150 that I drive for errands and have no complaints about that one either.

Been using a 1996 F 250 for hauling for five years.

Its gas but it really can pull strong.

Crews use it for hauling metal rails, heavy gates etc.

cant go wrong with a ford f250

you can get one with low miles for 5K maybe will have 150 k miles. Should go for another 15oK easy

Jack,
Don't take this the wrong way but you should look out of state. Texas has no state tax and you will find better looking vehicles here due to weather. Some have higher miles but 120,000 on an f250 diesel is just barely broke in here because it's all highway miles.

I can help you look or you can give me the specs of the truck you want, I.e. how much, four door. I will talk too Danny Knockdown  anyway, go through my bud. He works in the auction business for the government and will save you some time and money. This is not a test or a joke. He really does do that. I get all my vehicles through him.

Hope this helps,
FDC

JACK........

I don't like diesels but probably best for you.

Super-Duty might be a tad overkill but again it is the step-up for what ya want to do.

You could probably get by with a 5.0 F-250 and get about 10 miles to the gallon if it comes to that..anywhere from 1988 on up..

Paid $800.00 for my 1988 4 years ago.:0008

Dropped 1.23 tons in the bed of my F-250/5.0 just last week and went down the highway at 55 like going to church.

If ya buy private sale make damn sure ya have a great mechanic look it over..

Ball-joints..tie-rods..etc..

Trucks are meant to beat the shyt out of and working men do just that..

Continued success with the new ventures

I still have to pay the tax when I register the truck here.

I've actually been looking for an F250 myself.Have you tried ebay?

I don't know if you are willing to buy a 96 model but here's one with a 7.3 power stroke, extended cab, and 146k miles for just under 6k.
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1995...9206440?pt=US_Cars_Trucks&hash=item33752cdca8

And a ton of others if you're willing to go get the truck.

Yes, I have been looking on eBay for about the last 2 hours. Gonna find me one :0074

I keep stretching the distance. I was hoping to find one with less than 80K miles but these guys seem to think that doesn't matter much.
