Thanks for the feedback.

I agree Harbaugh is the better coach but I have nothing to base that on, I just 'think' he's the better coach and he probably is, like you say.

Why do you think Harbaugh is the better coach?

The reason I ask is because brother John gets a lot of praise on his coaching ability and I think he sucks. I know he sucks, as a matter of fact. And I base that on the decisions I see him make week after week after week. I follow every play of every game and feel qualified to make that judgement and I don't care what anybody says, he sucks. He's WAAAAY over-rated IMO.

Again, thanks for the feedback. I'm not gonna change your mind and you're not changing mine. Not yet anyway.

:toast:

I don't have anything to base it on either, really. I'm not a huge stats guy with the NFL, because everyone has such huge access to them, and I have watched enough over the past 20 years, to make fairly accurate perceptions.

The Niners stunk under Singletary, and brought almost exactly the same team back. They instantly became winners. When I watch Niners games, I almost NEVER find myself questioning play calling, defensive schemes, or clock management. The dude is a winner, and always seems to push the right buttons. Again, I just always think he almost always wins the coaching battle. Nothing scientific to back it up. I find myself thinking the exact opposite watching Chico. He makes so many terrible calls.

I think Jim is a much better coach than John. Just my opinion.

Carolina has a tough D... should be a great game.

Honestly, I was half-joking... but since you asked...

The short of it... I don't think you are biased towards Carolina or against SF, or anything like that. EVERYONE is biased because of the life they have led... that is pretty obvious. I don't get caught up in people calling people biased because everybody is. But Confirmation Bias doesn't necessarily make you biased toward something for a reason. It simply means that you made a certain hypothesis (that Carolina will win), and now you are simply only finding and reading things that confirm your original hypothesis. For instance, finding a random "penalties stat,' and using that as a reason to back Carolina because it means Carolina is a better coached team.

In other words, any evidence you find regarding the game, will lead you to further support your original position... which is why you keep liking it more an more, the more you read and discuss it.

We all do it ;)

:toast:
Yes, you are correct, we all do that.

That's why I don't usually pay any attention to trends because for every trend you find in your favor, there's another one going against you.

Thanks for the explanation.

But, I do keep finding more things to support my bet. :SIB

And that penalty stat is clearly showing an advantage for Carolina in this game. Home field is an advantage. The bye week does help Carolina. The third road game in a row is not a favorable situation for SF. All these things do add up.

This is a good thread, if I say so myself. :0008

And not because of me, because we are having a good discussion about the game.

Totally agree. I think "trend" plays are about 7401-7401 ATS in the last 14,802 games. You can crunch the numbers so many different ways to make them fit your theory.

Anyhow, I agree that all those things favor the Panthers. But I'm guessing all things favored the Bungals too. Some teams have it and some just don't when it matters. I'm a believer in Kap and Harbaugh. Kap takes a lot of shit, and definitely isn't the best QB in the world.. but the guys is an athlete and a winner. He makes plays when he needs to, and doesn't feel the pressure. IN a low scoring affair, I like the QB and the coach.

And,I agree about the thread. I love MJs for the diversity of opinions

bookmakers like those trends , nice way to track the suckers like a revenge game ... trends are only helpful if you play the same trends year after year ... nobody plays them that way .. past games means nothing at kickoff .......

We are not changing your mind but Since Harbough took over...niners I think have only one road loss to "east" coast team. Lost to his brother on Thanksgiving in 2011 if I remember. The rest are "W"s :0074

Pretty much in agreement with Jack here, and I do see jord's view on coaching, I'm a fan of a smart headcoach, there are def enough boneheaded ones out there! So Harbaugh gets the nod in experience. Personally I thought Carolina would be favored so the line scares me a bit.

Looking at the Frisco win last night, I feel GB's decision making or lack of helped Frisco win the game. Rodgers brings em down the field, last pass I believe was to Cobb knocked out at the 8 yard line, second to last drive of the game. In my opinion GB had frisco on their heels, looked a little winded and Rodgers takes the clock down and calls a time out. Frisco went on to hold GB to the FG and the rest is history. Not sure if you blame HC or Rogers for that but in my book it was a costly TO. When a teams retreating, the last thing you want to do is give them time to gather themselves.
Additionally after getting beat by Kap's running about every time they played, you'd think GB would have had a spy on him or blitzed more often to make the kid think on his feet more instead of rushing 3 or 4 and letting him sit to pick apart an already suspect secondary. Injuries on the D side were also a factor.

Those were the two occasions where I thought the pack lost the game. So basically I'll be riding with Carolina along with Jack. I think the Panther d will force the kid into mistakes and won't allow him to get out and run like GB did. We often see good talent bail out stupid coaching decisions and I'm banking on the talent and extra week of rest to be the difference in this game. Good luck fellas!

I like the Niners huge in this game. The game may be close, but I see only a slim chance that they lose. Experience, coaching and talent all weigh heavily in their favor. They have also demonstrated that they have no trouble on the road or in the East during the playoffs.

Truth of the matter is we need to back the fucking truck up, forget the lines in these games and believe in who u think is going to advance to the next round. Car and SF are same types of teams along with Sea too. SF off big hard fought win + travel. Car waiting in the wings looking for sea revenge + blood. Too many variables for SF. Car adaptable to wilson/kap style. It will be a re match of week 1 on a different play ground. There is no team in the league that is more prepared to shut down the dual threat of kap after going against cam everyday. Car advances...

I wasn't going to bet anymore this year but things change with an opportunity like this one. I spent a good amount of time looking at this game and I'm done looking because I'm not changing my mind. I'm all for opposing opinions posted in this thread but I highly doubt you can change my mind. If you can change my mind and you save me a lot of money, kudos to you, because I am unloading.

Panthers beat them in SF. I don't buy the revenge angle.
This is SF 3rd away game in a row. Coast to coast trip yet.
CAR home.
CAR 7-1 at home.
CAR bye week plenty of rest.
SF off tough physical game.
CAR allows 15ppg and SF 20ppg.
CAR only allows 86 rushing per game, SF allows 124.

This is the type game where the best defense wins and with CAR at home, with rest, with the place rocking, and SF on their 3rd road trip in a row after the tough game yesterday, I can't see the 49ers coming away with a win. Not to mention the Panthers really should be a 3 point fave here and will be getting a point or 2. Yeah, SF has won 7 in a row but CAR has won 9 of the last 10 with the only loss coming @NO. You like fading the public? This will be a great spot to do so because everybody and their mother will be taking the 49ers especially after yesterday's win.

I don't think the 9ers have a chance and I had quit betting for the year but I am definitely reloading and taking the Panthers in another all in bet to win this one.

I'm waiting to bet because if Auburn covers tonight I get 3rd place in the College Bowl Contest and that will save me from reloading with my own funds.

Good luck!

Auburn cover :toast:

I haven't made my mind up about this game yet. I have made my mind up on Saturdays games and the late game Sunday but not this one yet. Jack u have many compelling points in favor of UR play, and I'm hoping it hits for u, but u asked for reasons to look at the other side, and here is one that I know of: San Fran was undefeated ats for the season as a road favorite. They lost twice as a road dog, which would indicate to me that next week as a road dog in Seattle is when they fall. Anyway, sf has been money as a road favorite this year. Good luck

is san diego gonna be the shocker this year?...that defense was lights out last week....and the running game took all the pressure off of rivers....

team looks to be jelling at just the right time(like the ravens beating denver and n.e. on the road last year).......but beating denver at home twice would be a monumental undertaking......

it`s not likely,but,if i were denver,i wouldn`t be taking them lightly...
