whats up guys,

i have directv and HD and it is the most amazing thing ever.

i have the following HD channels and was wondering if anyone knows of or has any other HD channels.

HBOHD, SHOHD, ESPNHD, ESPN2HD, UNIVERSALHD, TNTHD, HDNET, HDNETMOVIES, DISCOVERYHD, ABCHD, NBCHD, FOXHD, CBSHD, CDUSAHD, PAYPERVIEWHD, YESHD(YANKEE HOME GAMES ONLY)

I ALSO GET THE PPV FIGHTS IN HD. I GET THE NFL SUPERFAN IN HD,

I JUST GOT OFF THE PHONE WITH DIRECTV AND THEY JUST KEEP SAYING THAT THEY DONT KNOW WHEN THEY WILL GET NEW HD CHANNELS. THEY SEEM TO BE JUST WORKING ON GETTING EVEYONE THEIR LOCAL CHANNELS IN HD.

IF YOU KNOW OF ANYTHING PLEASE LET ME KNOW.

ALSO, MAKE SURE YOU GUYS DONT BUY ANY NEW DVD PLAYERS OR EVEN THE NEW HD DVD PLAYERS. DO NOT BUY ANYTHING UNTIL THE BLUE RAY PLAYERS COME OUT. SONY IS LAUNCHING THEIR BLU RAY PLAYER AROUND AUGUST. IT WILL BE THE BEST PLAYER ON THE MARKET AND IN THE WORLD. YOU CAN PLAY YOUR OLD DVDS IN THE BLU RAY PLAYER AND IT WILL UP CONVERT IT TO HD BUT IF YOU BUY AN HD DVD PLAYER YOU CAN NOT DO THIS. JUST THOUGHT I WOULD PASS THIS ALONG FOR YOU GUYS.
IF YOU GUYS HAVE QUESTIONS IN REGARDS TO ANY OF THIS OR ANYTHING SONY RELATED PLEASE DROP ME A NOTE OR POST A QUESTIONS. I MASTER CERTIFIED WITH SONY AND THROUGH MY JOB SO I GET INFO USUALLY BEFORE OTHERS.

VOOM, Cablevision's high-definition direct broadcast satellite platform, will include some crystal-clear, steamy adult content - specifically from Playboy TV and perhaps others - as part of its HD offerings when the service launches nationwide Wednesday.

According to a source close to the deal, VOOM will bring Playboy Entertainment Group's flagship adult content, such as Night Calls, to HD screens nationwide. As part of the deal, Cablevision will provide an upfront fee to Playboy to make HD adult content in exchange for a two-year exclusive run, the source said. No further details were disclosed.

While Playboy TV typically offers the softer adult content, the network began adding more explicit clips to its lineup this summer. But VOOM might not stop there. Hustler, a full-throttle pornography magazine by Larry Flynt Publications, also may cut a deal with VOOM to bring a new explicit HD adult channel to the masses, according to an insider. At press time, a deal to launch this potential Hustler channel on Wednesday was not complete.

Neither Playboy, Cablevision nor Larry Flynt Publications would comment on any deals.

A few things seem certain when it comes to HD porn, though. The Erotic Networks, Playboy's main competitor, and Spain-based Private Media Group, which is launching its first adult network this quarter, will not be found on VOOM. At least not yet.

Charles Prast, CEO of Private, told Cable World late last week that he would rather take a wait-and-see approach when it comes to HD porn. "I think a lot of viewers would probably not want to see our competitor's content in HDTV," he said. "I don't think you want that level of definition."

Ken Boenish, president of the Erotic Networks, also was unsure as to whether there was a strong enough market for HD adult content for which companies could charge a premium. "I think high definition is a great thing for beautiful cinematographic productions and maybe sports events," he said. "The question for adult entertainment is going to be whether it's going to be a benefit or is it going to be a detriment."

Regarding Directv HD: You'll have a long wait before you get much more. It's just a matter of how much space they have, and right now they are forced by law to offer every HD local station that is out there, starting with the largest markets and working down to the smallest, until they are all up and running. That means sending up something like 1000 different HD channels, since there are over 200 US markets, and each one of them has at least 5 locals in HD (ABC, CBS, FOX, NBC and PBS). Some markets like LA and NY may have 10 or more. And of these 1000 HD channels they are adding, you are only able to view the 5-10 that come from your local city. (Keep that in mind when you hear DTV boast about adding "the most HD channels", or adding "1000 channels this year". You will NOT be able to view anything remotely close to 1000 HD channels).

It's totally redundant in most cases, since a lot of the time the networks are showing the same program at the same time (ie. during primetime every ABC affiliate in the Eastern Time Zone will be showing the exact same show, and they've got to carry 200 different stations all showing the same thing!). But it's a requirement from the FCC, and it's taking up a TON of bandwidth...and also preventing Directv from adding much more nationally.

This stupid requirement is a HUGE, and I mean HUGE, drain on DTV's resources. One HD channel takes up 8 to 10 times the space that one SD channel does. So their capacity gets gobbled up super quick whenever they want / need to add something in HD.

You're going to have to wait until they get their two new satellites up before you see substantially more HD from national channels. One of those sats is due to go up in spring '07, the other in late fall '07. Really sucks...because HD just blows away everything else.

If you want waaaaaaay more info than you could ever hope for regarding HD, DTV, etc, check out avsforum dot com.

Regarding VOOM: They're launching / relaunching? Holy crap. I hadn't heard about that. They had the most HD when they were around the first time, but a lot of it was channels they created themselves, and a lot of it was total garbage. I mean, I love HD too...but a channel that shows nothing but a fish tank in HD 24/7 is not my idea of quality. Should be interesting to see if they do any better 2nd time around. I can't imagine why they would even bother to relaunch under the VOOM name...not like it's held in high regard.
