Yes. This would be an awesome and (should be) affordable way to see and travel the US! Much like Europe! :)

Hedgie: Serious questions. This is NOT a meant to be a bash or even negative. I'm just really curious.

1. Have you ever traveled outside of Texas?

2. Why wouldn't you take advantage of this if it were built?

If it's cheaper than air travel, I think it will be used extensively. If the costs run too high, I could see it being underused.

America is a lot larger horizontally (no pun intended) than Europe or China's HSR systems.
My opinion is it would work best up and down the coasts.

Cost and NIMBYism (both legit concerns) are the main factors to work out.

I might take it to Austin just for the hell of it

You all really think people would use this? would it make stops along the way, for instance in Lake Charles going from Houston to New Orleans:shrug: I might use it to go to the casino if it did :SIB

They do not even slow down at stops you just jump off the side to get off.

Seriously how can you be completely against something when you have no idea about it?

Well, it would make more sense for you to take it to Austin than driving yourself because of the time factor. Again, it would depend on the cost.

And also, depending on how it's built, there could be stops between Houston and New Orleans.

In Europe, despite all kinds of stops/stations built, stopping at a particular station depended on what train you were on. Certain trains only stop at certain locations while others stop at all of 'em - along the lines they were traveling on. As a tourist, it keeps you on your toes! :)

this would be amazing. I would love to see this done in my lifetime, but they've been talking about high speed rail lines in CA and FL forever and nothing has been done.
