"the bunker"
We can't agree to build gas pipeline through low populated areas but this ok?

Id be interested in seeing a business plan on the cost of travel per hour for the traveler.

All of the hassles of air travel would still be present.

happy birthday,p.a.....and many more...:toast:

In the most significant blow yet to the Obama administration?s vision of a national high-speed rail

In the most significant blow yet to the Obama administration?s vision of a national high-speed rail network, Gov. Rick Scott of Florida on Wednesday rejected plans for a high-speed link between Tampa and Orlando, in the process turning down more than $2 billion in federal money.

"Mr. Scott said at a news conference in Tallahassee on Wednesday that cost overruns related to the Tampa-to-Orlando line could leave Florida taxpayers stuck with a $3 billion tab. Further, he said that if the state deemed the project too costly"

Guess who gets stuck with the tab. Good idea but who wants to pay for it? YOU?
Keep printing money.

I think eventually it will be a necessity... I would definitely use it now. I hate flying, and way easier than driving - you can sleep, read, be online, work, etc. during the travel time.

Europe's system is awesome. Agree it would be a bit different here because of the size of our country, but I think it could still be useful. I also remember traveling across the country on an Amtrak when younger, and I loved it. I think we will see this in our lifetime.

Clearly, everyone would love this - if it were free.

But it is tremendously costly to build. Which is why it is a political issue. Who pays for it?

The fares would not make it self sustaining - and still be affordable for folks. So, it would have to be heavily subsidized. Again, who pays for that?

Not sure if anyone realizes, but we already have a huge budget deficit at the Federal level, and a huge debt.

I don't think any sane person would want to add to our current deficit and debt, given where they are right now... oh wait, I know of one person who continually adds to it and doesn't mind....:nono:

Exactly !!
