I was seriously in the running for last place last year and I forgot to post my picks in week 15 or 16 :142smilie

does missing a week or two disqualify people who are in the running for first place?

I might let Cie lose it while i take the rest of the year off :142smilie

gotta be honest bobby, on my third crown on the rocks and couldn't figure out mrchristo's third game. scores are final in my book except for thadchr of course. the judges are meeting as we speak to sort thru his mess...

I should first say guys, I genuinely didn't/don't intend to cause controversy around here. I love these boards and I've very much enjoyed this contest, though I haven't been around here as long as some of you and don't seem to entirely understand the protocol, subtleties, and about half the inside jokes within the Hippo-Kramer. :mj1:

For the last couple weeks (until last week, at which point I'd given up), I'd made a quick post after my picks to tell/remind the moderators of this contest that I thought I should have 1 more point than was recorded in the standings. As I said, I've sort of come to the conclusion that this whole contest is a bit tongue-in-cheek (and after all, the scorekeepers for this contest are obviously doing so for free--thanks for that :) --and mining threads is definitely a rather annoying task) so last week I just decided I'd give it up... as I'd said along along, no big deal.

As for my week 14 score, I would like to plead my case. I don't know who the official "judges" of this contest are (I assume Hippo and Kramer  ) and/or who makes the final decisions--and for that matter, whether or not ripken and smurph's comments were pure sarcasm kurby ... ... but all that said, I feel I should still be in the running here, so whoever has the official judgement, here's my story if it hasn't already been relayed to you:

Last week I was getting some last minute bets in at 5Dimes and submitted my Hippo-Kramer picks at (I believe) 12:04. Obviously, nothing had happened in any of the games yet, and I believe some had yet to even kick off. Looking back at the time-stamp records, (obviously) no one had scored (or even made any significant progress) yet, and for that matter, it's not as if I would have known and reacted that quickly anyway. As last week's post shows, I immediately got berated by a storm of "-3s!!!", and BBC said he would check into the issue for me (...though again, it's difficult for me to tell if he was being sarcastic :banghead:). All said, I was right up in the front pack of this contest, would have went 2-1 for a score of +3, and (at least tentatively?) have been given a -3, effectively eliminating any chances of me winning...

Again, obviously this isn't my decision, and I've admitted that I don't totally understand the "culture" of this contest, if you will. However, it seems to be at least somewhat lighthearted, and if it were me, I'd excuse the 4 minutes... At this point (since I'm 1)lazy and 2)not an "official" scorekeeper), I'd obviously give up fretting about the 1-point error from weeks back if this "favor" were granted to me. (Of course, I guess I'd shut up about it either way really. :SIB) I think that's something of a compromise.

So, to whoever's decision this is to make, there's my case. I suppose I can live with things either way, but I would like my ultimate standing in this contest to be a reflection of my ability to pick winners each week rather than have to mail it in this week due to a technicality. :toast:

A little empathy? heyes

Also, for what's it worth, I don't have a ton of time on my hands, but I am pretty decent with spreadsheets, etc., and wouldn't mind helping out with the scoring for this contest in the future.

As I said, I realize that whoever is putting in the time is doing it as a favor to MadJacks... since it doesn't seem to get mentioned often, your work does not go unappreciated. :yup

I would like my ultimate standing in this contest to be a reflection of my ability to pick winners each week by 10:00 am pst Sunday (playoffs different rules)

I agree.

-3:shrug: It just wouldn't be fair to Sponge any other way.

Sounds like you deserve that other point, but I don't want to step on Blue Balls' turf with this.

I'm sure any scorekeeping you do will be greatly appreciated.

Thadchr - This contest was never meant to be serious and it's always been an embarassment, but this year is worse because no one's in charge except for kramer and he's sooooo very busy that rulemaking and scoring have really been left up to the collective. Sure, kramer will say "thank you for grading", but I don't even think he reads the threads.

I will say when Sponge was late to post his plays earlier this year, I was ecstatic, because he's a whiny prick and when Beachboy was late with his, I laughed when smurph said "-3 dude, hope the tasty waves were worth it" because I hate people from California. I'm not happy that you lost the 3 points because I don't want to see Cie or Jack win, but having your picks in by kickoff is the only rule that's here. To not recognize that you were late isn't fair to a number of people who've taken minus 3's because they were late.

Lastly, there's special rules in the playoffs for more points and I believe that 1/2 the winner's pool is based on that (note to smurph: need a ruling), so you're definitely not out.
