On the course!
I tend to go up to the casino in Green Bay on an occasion or two. ;) The past half a dozen trips have been pretty decent for my gal and I. She is fairly new at the game, having just learned it last year in Las Vegas. I have been playing for quite some time.

My wins won't garner me any world wide esteem. I wager in the $15-$50 range, and usually pull down about $100-$300 if I win, or a little more than that if I lose. My girlfriend tends to wager the $10 minimum, and bump it up a nickel if she's feeling lucky! I keep telling her that she will never win any decent money that way, but she counters with, "I won't lose much, either". I can't argue that fact!

The other night we went up there, and as we often do, we pooled our money. (I have learned that it isn't much fun winning, while your better half losses, or vice versa.) We each started with $100, and she did the playing this time. After about 2 hours, she was up to $500. I decided to go to another table and play a few hands on my own. (It breaks from playing as partners, but I was getting a little bored.) I made a quick $180 or so in about 10 minutes, and decided to cash out. I had an odd $5 bill in my change, so I decided to put it in a $5 slot. This never has worked for me, so I wasn't hoping for much.

Lo and behold, I got a cherry, and a 5X symbol for a 25 coing pay out. I took the $125, and added it to my winnings. I headed back towards my gal, and she was still at the $500 mark. At the completion of that shoe, we decided to cash out. My girl did some quick math, and figured she was out about $60 over the course of our last 4 trips. We decided to take a quick stab on the $25 table, to "get her money back". We each went in for $50.

The cards went back and forth for about 15 minutes, and I still had the original 4 green chips. I was ready to leave, so I pushed all 4 chips in the betting circle. "Why are you doing that?!?" asked my girlfriend. "We can lose it all in one hand!"

I told her that I wanted to get out of there, and this was an all or nothing shot before we left. Well, the cards came by, and I get 9/9 against the dealer's 5. I have played cards for many years, and I am amazed at how many times I am playing the last of the money I am willing to risk, and this type of situation come up. So, I dig for another hundy. My girlfriend let's me know that she will not be a part of this. She only wanted to risk $50, and she was sticking to her guns. I tossed the bill on the felt, and it was turned into a matching pile of green chips by the dealer, and set majestically next to its twin. The 9's were split, and out came a third nine! I immediately dug back in for reinfocements! Four more greenies, and the bankroll was ready for a serious lift, courtesy of the Oneide Tribe.

Three piles, three nines.......first hand: a 5 for shit. Second hand: a 7 for shit. Third hand, a 9!!! "Jesus Christ", I mutterd. Normally, I would be happy to see that 9 against a dealer's 5, but I already had two shitty hands that needed major help! I tossed out another Franklin, and got a 2! Okay....now I can double, and make up for those two flat tires I have sitting there. Another Hundy, and an Ace! "Fuk me!" Now, the other three clods at the table are starting in: "I wish I had a 20 hand right now, cause I can see where this is going", said one old guy. I wanted to tell him to fuk off, but what would that do for me? My last hand caught an 8 for 17. So, here I sit.......$500 on the layout. By far the most money I have had out at one time, and I need what should be an easy call. A dealer busting an up card 5. Yes.....should be an easy call. But, just like the other guys at the table, I knew I was going to get spanked.

The dealer turned over the obligatory 6 in the hole, and drew an 8 for a 19. "I knew I needed a 20 hand!", crowed the geezer next to me. So, a nice day's win was shot to hell in one hand.

My girl was decent about it, though. Instead of riding me about the ammount wagered, she said, "Don't worry about it.......you're saving your luck for Las Vegas."

.....and by god, I am!

good story (even though the outcome was less than ideal)

and youre right, its amazing how many times you get dealt cards you want to split or double down on when you are trying to leave. not an easy decision. blackjack theory says play the percentages. bankroll sometimes says stay disciplined. definitely feels like a no win

yyz, been there done that so many times it probably defies the odds.

i know this has happened to alot of us, but as I read this I just started to laugh, not at you yy, but at the situation. I knew how this was going to turn out even though I was hoping for the fantasy ending.

Having been thru this exact situation so many times and yes a few of those times I could't keep going (no mo' money in the pocket:( ) I have come to learn for me that no matter what the odds say I no longer reach in for the mo' money.

I just play it as it falls, in this case (even though I know it goes against all BJ odds and strategy) I would have played the 18 and saved myself alot grief and money because no matter the odds I ALWAYS SEEM TO LOSE when I'm in these situations:D

I fell your pain yy, hope you get it back ten fold in vegas:)

the book also says to always split 8's but no way i'm splitting 8's vs dealer 10. what, so i can lose 2x my money? no thanks.

also, it says to always split A's but an oldtimer once showed me that not splitting them was the best play. he proved it to me somehow but i don't remember. anyway, i always split the aces anyway :)

beantownjim says "always take a hit on 12 no matter what card the dealer shows" LOLOL

I'm no Black Jack expert, but I thought the rule was to never split a winner.

Splitting aces:

You know......that is another one of those hands that I hate to get! This might be another batch of mumbo jumbo, but when I get a two card eleven, I get my fair share of face cards when I double down. If I split aces, I seem to get a shitload of 3's and 4's!!!!

It has gotten so bad, that I dread splitting them, and hope for a push on the two hands! I remember one time that I was so frustrated over getting shit cards on aces, that I decided to just hit them. (I did this only one time ever, mind you.) I am sure you know what I got....... FACE/FACE!!!!!

I don't need S Love to say it........ I am a born loser! :(

I'm just glad I have enough cash left over to feed my fat girlfriend and her mom, after my compulsive binges at the casinos.

Don't know about or like playing with a damn shoe, so mostly play downtown in las vegas. Something about being able to pick up the cards...maybe so i can kinda smack 'em down after busting. Also, can just tuck 'em and not worry about paying attention (Sir, sir it's your turn...oh, excuse me i was watching the practically topless young lady next door).

In 1 or 2 deck games, split 9s vs. 2-6, 8-9.

Gee, maybe you should lose more often. Sounds like a fair proposition to me "rode me the whole way home". Would be afraid I would have a wreck!;)
