I used to have a ton of hockey cards, not any longer, I sold em.
I'd say hang on to your cards, market is dead, but in 10 years it might be alive again:shrug:

If you had an actual "10" OPC Gretzky rookie I would hope that you got a ton for it. Perfect 10's are almost impossible to find.
Having said that, either the scan of that one is bad or there is no way that card should be graded a 10. I know PSA is very lenient in their grading, but the right side on that card (front) disqualifies if from even a 9.5.
The OPC factory was famous for using dull blades when cutting cards from the print pages and this card is certainly a victim of that.
A 9 is still pretty impressive. Not too many legit 9's out there anymore.

Sports card business is all but dried up. Once the last generation of hold-outs lets go of their childhood the door will be shut- Sad, but true. Nothing like the excitement of an unopened box of sports cards.
How so? No interest from kids these days. Where's the interest going to come from?
true for the brick and mortar stores but online business is pretty huge depending on where you look.
What are the average age of the buyers- Probably 40s-50s and up- those who grew up in the golden ages of baseball and other sports cards. I'm not talking about a mint Gretzky or other high priced item that has significant value, there will always be the Honus Wagners out there.
When this generation has moved on the current generation of kids aren't going to give 2 squats about the cards.
youre quite far off actually. a lot of young people make up collectors now. they are all over youtube. teenagers to guys in their 20s and early 30s
I think one of the big reasons for the downfall of the sports card market isn't so much the kids/interest these days, but the complete oversaturationg of the market.
I stopped in at one of the local sports cards shops here about 3 months ago just to check it out and see what was new in the world - holyshit. I think for the 2012 season I saw about 28 different brands of baseball cards.
That and at about 3-5 bucks a pop for a pack of 5, what little kid is going to have the money for that?
I was even thinking about getting back into the sportscard collection gig until I saw that. Didn't even know where to start.
Go back about 20 years to the early 90's - we had Topps, Donruss, Fleer, Score, and Upper Deck was starting to solidfy their place in the market. It wasn't overkill.
