Scott:

Actually I believe (and many other sources do also) that premium rates will go up rather substantially, beginning in 2013.

Most insurers will write as much "healthy" business as they can prior to 2013. The people entering the system then will be in much poorer health, on average, and will drive up costs exponentially.

The argument that is made is that "we are paying for those folks already in the ER". That part is true - those folks' costs are shifted to the private insurance market. However, those same people will clearly utilize the Docs and prescription drugs that they did not have access to previously.

And as far as insurance companies screwing customers with their high rates? While I understand it is easy to pick on the big bad insurers, it seems to me that a 2.2% profit margin (which the industry had last year) doesn't seem unfair to me?

Now those beverage makers - which have a much higher profit margin (as do software companies, etc - actually 34 other industries in the US) - THOSE are the companies that we need government to take over.

In fact, I'd be in favor of the government taking over EVERY industry and taking out the profit component - so it would be cheaper for us.

That would be so cool! Imagine gasoline for $1.00 per gallon. How about Beer for $0.50 a six-pack!

YES! :mj06:

To pay for the expansion of coverage, the bill cuts Medicare's projected spending by more than $400 billion over a decade. It also imposes a tax surcharge of 5.4 percent on income over $500,000 in the case of individuals and $1 million for families.

I like this idea

its about time they contributed to someone besides themselves and their rich cronies.

Scott, let me see if I get this right... you want to get fraud and corruption out of healthcare... and to do that, you want the government to run it??? :mj07:

My God, think of what you are asking..... The government can't do anything without waste, fraud and corruption. Take a look how well Medicare (which is what our health system will look) is funded - oh yea, and check out how well Social Security is funded.

how bout concrete:0corn

The concrete would be free! But the water needed to mix it would be $100,000. That probably sums up pretty well how our current government works.

But all they'd tell you is that the Concrete was free so vote for it!
