.....thoughts on Dollar Bill Bradley's endorsement anyone? Interesting Veep candidate....forgot about him....and he was my guy in 2004. It'd be great to see him back in the spotlight........smart, experienced operator........and an unbeatable two-on-two ticket!

i was once a big dollar bill supporter, but like thompson once i heard him on the campaign trail i felt very sleepy..

My off the cuff thinking after watching the Republican debates this weekend, and seeing the organized right wing efforts early and now against Hillary (Drudge, Fox/Hannity, etc.), I have to say I am less assured a democrat will win the Presidency. I do think it will happen, still, but feel less sure of it.

To be honest, after watching the republican debate last night, I thought more of who they have running than I did at first. I needed to watch them and listen to them, and I thought all of them seemed somewhat viable except Thompson. I don't think Giuliani will get the nod at this point, and I really thought he would. He just seems like too dark a character to me now, most of the spotlight on him deals with negativity and issues conservatives don't care for. I don't think people want to think about what he might have been up to, the Kerik stuff, the organized crime stuff, girlfriends when married, etc., and he just seems like he could look you in the eye and lie.

The three remaining candidates (in my mind) all are coming across pretty strongly. I have always liked McCain, and still do. He does look and act old, though, and seems to get flustered when pressed on issues. I think he is the most qualified candidate of any of them on either side, and I think he would do a good job as President. Romney is a great speaker, he sounds self-assured, and would probably be a tough competitor. I don't think much of his politics, and would not vote for him against any of the dems, however. I would consider McCain. As for Huckabee, I think he is a player at this point. He seems very genuine, and should garner some ongoing support from the far right, conservatives in general, and possibly some midwestern moderates. He kind of seems above the fray, and seems very serious about what he feels strongly about. I think people probably feel he is out of the mainstream political process as much as anyone, which should also help.

His ultra-conservative social views would keep me from voting for him, but he is a comfortable guy.

Just some rambling thoughts from a left-leaner on the righties.

Since I was A.B.B. back in 2000 (anyone but bush) and remain so today, I preferred any of the guys back in 2000.....think we'd be better off today w/ either Gore, McCain or Bradley being elected back then.

Anyway, my point is that back in 2000 I liked both primary losers--McCain and Bradley--a helluva a lot more than the actual primary winners.....it would have been nice to have been able to chose one or the other that November instead of the two we got.....i have always liked McCain--although I think the has lost some of the "maverick" cred he had once built up as someone more "maverick" might have challenged this president a bit more. One of the many reasons I dislike Bush and his minions (or it is minions and their guy Bush, never can be sure who is really running the show :142smilie), is the way they ran such a slimy negative campaign against McCain in 2000....the anonynous calls in the southern states leading up to Super Tuesday saying he turned coat on his country while a POW, as an example.....ridiculous.

i was big on mccain & bradley also in 2000..but wound up voting for gore...

as far as bush's negative campaign against mccain in the so. carolina primary...that is the way politics have been done for years....& i think it was up to mccain to take it on more aggresively than he did...

AR, yeah I know thats how campaigns are run now....some of it is not that bad. For example, is taking your opponents views and voting records and attacking those going negative? Maybe not.....but I do not think we always had this 100%, shady, behind the scenes sort of character assassinations that we have today.....it is a modern, mass media phenonema.....the whole concept of "driving peoples negatives up" is a new found political strategy......and, one that will likely stick around......for example, a certain female senator from ny who shall not be named is probably doing a whole lot "driving up the negatives" right about now.....its was bush's only hope to get Mo back from McCain in 2000 because he could not offer anything else, and its the same for her now I think.

On a related note AR, I notice that you and I share many views: social liberal, aggressive foregin policy, fairly independent minded, preferred mccain and bradley in 2000, former hippie, read books on stuff like the 1800 election, sports gambling, a handicapping trend for every occassion (its why is started reading your threads after all) and so on.....are you sure you're not my long lost older brother or something!?!? Perhaps we met at a Dead show years ago? :mj07:

On the course!
That burrito scene was key. Tanner knew he was going to get his ass kicked, but stood up and did the right thing for his teamate. And of course ultimately we all ended up feeling bad for that Yankees kid when Vic Morrow struck him on the pitcher's mound after he threw at Englebert's head. Damn, his mom was a MILF though! She looked like she was ready to party.

Vic Morrow popped that kid (Brandon Cruz) because he was a puss all his life. That kid played "Eddie" in "The Courtship of Eddie's Father" in the late 60's and early 70's. It was a well known Hollywood storyline that Morrow hated the kid throughout the filming. The slap was ad-libbed, but done so masterfully, that Michael Ritchie kept it in. (The script called for him to just shake "Joey".) Afterwords, it is reported that Morrow was heard to tell Cruz, "I ain't Bill Bixby, you little shit!......You need a best friend? Buy a dog!"

Cruz left the lot that day, never to return, and a few of the later scenes in the movie had to be altered because of it.

Brandon Cruz's career went downhill swiftly after "The Bad News Bears". He had only a few more roles, including a bone Bill Bixby threw him on The Incredible Hulk.

He went on to become a helicopter repair technician, which, to this day, has some Hollywood types speculating if he didn't have something to do with the tragic death of Vic Morrow during the filming of The Twilight Zone in 1983........

We may never find out, unless we can get Gregg to delve deeper.

Too funny.....I have some money, not a ton, but we could probably make it work, maybe more so if I ever get my book finished and published.....smurphy would not be the first family member to get a little out of hand. Sounds like we could just put him in front of the tv with a brady bunch marathon and he'd calm right down!!!

More importantly.....Who's Next or Exile on Main Street?.....might be a thread hijack, but its the best both bands have to offer, imo.....a few years back, I would have put Who's Next ahead, but lately, i dont know, i've found myself jamming more to Exile. Most of that album is on my ipod and makes damn good running music.

For a VERY long time, my answer would have been Who's Next, too. I wore out an LP of Who's Next and I didn't even own a copy of Exile on Main St until 1983 or so...

But now, Exile gets a bit more airplay on my Ipod than does Who's next...

Lot of heat on me.........but, since we have a :mj22: ......in a direction I can have more fun with than Obama's chances......I'll take some cuts.

More importantly.....Who's Next or Exile on Main Street?.....

The cover is legendary......pound for pound, the tracks are all heavy hitters (Goin' Mobile #1, imho).....a giant of a band at the peak of their powers.........but, its Mick and the boys for me.

I look at Exile as the tail end of as strong a 3 yrs as any band could put together. Coinciding with the intro of Mick Taylor into Brian Jones' slot, this monster run started with must-have Let It Bleed......(we all need someone we can cream on)......followed by top 5 all-time live album get Yer Ya-Ya's Out.......Sticky Fingers("Y'all got....cocaine eyes!" Can't get enough of Dead Flowers, plus even more legendary/iconic cover)..........and cleaning up this grand slam by "can't you hear me" knockin' it outta the yard with Exile.. ("Rock's Off" for me).

Its the body of work for me.......I know I technically changed the ????????, but I can't separate those four LPs in my brain anymore. That's how I got turned on to the Stones, and imho, they didn't do much else for me again until Ronnie Wood became a regular in the late 70's/early 80's.

No music collection is comlete w/o this 4 LP run.....or you're just missing a key chapter in the story of rock-n-roll......

Pardon the interruption:00x11 .......Back to politics!

Just saw the clip of Hillary gettin' all emotional......she's goin' to the "I'm Just a Girl" card? Hope not.......can't possibly think that will work. Method acting a very difficult lifestyle, I'm told. GOP would kill that angle, and have fun doing it:shrug:

Hope this effort enough smurphy........don't want my card pulled!

Good Luck to all in the big game tonite......D:SIB C

totally agree about those 4 Stones LPs....damn, just how old ARE we that we talk about LPs rather than CDs...LOL

Well, when youre sitting back
In your rose pink cadillac
Making bets on kentucky derby day
Ill be in my basement room
With a needle and a spoon
And another girl to take my pain away...

Killer 1000 post man!! :00hour

Yeah, Who's Next is all four members of the Who at their absolute peak.....some of the more beautiful songs in rock history are on that LP.....Daltrey's voice was never better than on some of those tracks.

But, cant disagree with any of what you said about the Stones....especially that run of four records.....it bleeds together a bit for me too....cant imagine a world without Cant Always Get What You Want, Tumbling Dice, Shine a LIght, Brown Sugar (what would Mahoney say), Dead Flowers, Live With Me and so on and so on.....thanks to the IPOD world we live in now, they might as well be all on the same album.

Dead Flowers is one of my favorites too......making bets on Kentucky Derby Day!

Damn, THAT is some good info. I remember that Vic Morrow accident. And YES I do not doubt that Joey and Hulk had something to do with it. ...It probably paved the way for Ed McCaffrey as well.
