I am a child of the 60's when pot or hash was given out like candy, so I've smoked heavily from ages 18 to 42....I drove a taxi in NYC when I was in college & smoked 3,4,5 joints a day while doing so....Never had an accident or ticket....

I played sandlot football for years with the whole team stoned on either pot, hash, or speed....We didn't have great teams, but we didn't care....LOL....

Later on I was a very productive insurance salesman where I did a lot of driving & most times I was stoned by a few joints....Sometimes I worked with a partner who also smoked & we were known in our office as Cheech & Chong...LOL !! again no accidents or tickets....

As far as if pot impairs a person, I would think it would depend on the individual....

And btw I changed my stance on whether marijuana should be legalized, I now don't think it should be....

Now that you don't smoke it anymore.

I don't smoke weed anymore and not because it's illegal either, I just don't need it or care for it. But, if it became legal and I could buy it at the store, I would probably buy some and see what's up. I'm guessing it would attract a lot of new regular users.

:0003 So you write nothing but positive things about pot and conclude by saying it should be illegal? Please explain that, cuz there appears to be no logic in that whatsoever.

LOL !! Yeah I know it is hypocritical but my reasons are too long to type....

A few months ago my wife & I were at a dinner party & a friend who lives in Cali gets pot with a precription gave me a joint as her & her husband were leaving....That joint stayed on my desk for a month before I decided to toss it in the garbage....

I was a child in the 90's, and I smoked 6, 8, or 10 joints a day. Amazing how inflation works. Actually, we mostly smoked out of ten foot bongs and glass bubblers. Technological advances, too.

I have probably driven across the country twenty or more times in my wild band-chasing traveling days, toking on spliffs, and there is no way that it is even comparable to drinking. With drinking, you kind of get a "I don't give a fuck" attitude, whereas with smoking, you almost care more. That's important for driving. That said, it certainly was my tolerance level as well. Later in life when I smoked medicinally, I would smoke every day before going to work, where I had to perform a detail oriented job, and never had an issue.

Hope all is well with you and your lovely wife, AR! Cheers

I have never tried it, or any other drug except alcohol

I don't think it should be legalized unless its going to be HEAVILY taxed and law enforcement has a test to see if someone is impaired

LOL !! My dear friend Murph, how are you buddy....I knew that post would attract your attention....

I just feel that the majority of the people who smoke now cannot handle it well enough....

Just a fyi Murph, if you start busting my balls over this, I will stop pimping you out to the "lovelies" of the Valley of the Sun....

Hi Jess....Hope everything is well with you & your beautiful family....

I am curious & not being critical by any means....Do you smoke in front of your kids ? I had a friend who did smoke in front of his kids, who are now in their 30's & they do not touch the stuff & they tell me that they never even tried it....

As far as driving after drinking, my wife insists that she drives if I have too many Captains.

Pimp away! The Bible says we should not judge others. Many people (including myself the last couple years) can not handle alcohol well. Should we ban that too?

Haven't smoked since I was pregnant with Augusta, who is five now. Before that, only smoked rarely for a year or so - once a week. But before that, you could say I was a heavy user since the age of 14 - let's just say I had easy, free access to a lot of good stuff, living in Colorado for years! I have a lot of friends who still smoke and have kids now, but they don't do it in front of their kids. Will be interesting to see what happens when their kids get older.

My remedy for stress these days is one glass of wine each night while I'm cooking dinner. I could see myself smoking again when I am older, but for now I have too much going on to dabble. I will say that when I was very sick for years, it was the only drug I found that would get me out of bed in the morning and through my day so I could eat and so forth. It should be legal for medicinal purposes everywhere, for sure.

Cheers

Bible, pimp, and prohibition in one post.

Interesting, indeed.

My mom told me in high school that she would much rather have me smoke pot than drink or smoke cigarettes. So, I followed her advice.

I think the metrics back up her handicapping. Pot has proven itself to be the least problematic of those.

coming up on 17 years without a drink or a buzz..

Hmm, so no way to test/prove impairment for a pot smoker other than a piss/blood test that I'm familiar with already?

A guy is weaving down the road, he is pulled over, he blows 0000 on the breathalyzer, but the car smells like he has been hotboxing. He has the piss/blood test, it's positive for MJ, but he gets a lawyer to give reasonable doubt that he smoked it that night and it was just remnants in his system?

Sounds like a bunch of horse shit to me.

If I had any trace of tHC in my system and I had to piss test at work, it's automatic termination.

My thoughts are fuck any driver impaired on anything whether legal or not. I called the police a few months ago on this moron passed out in her driver's seat in the parking lot of the store. I had seen her earlier and recognized her Xanax/Lortab mask bc I know that look all too well. She was too impaired to drive.

Not sure why people can't be responsible? Baffles me. Why the hell do u need to ever drive impaired on anything?

I guess I don't see the difference in a dwi at this point no matter the offending agent (booze, pot, pills, other drugs); just seems like pot will be a nightmare to enforce should it become legal everywhere and more readily available. Ill always be against that legalization.

Clint,
That is an incredibly short sighted and somewhat hypocritical statement and it surprises me greatly that you would state this. First of all, you are stating unequivocally that anyone that has smoked pot in the last hour or whatever is indeed impaired. That is simply untrue. Also, are those that use marijuana for medical purposes somehow less responsible than you or the millions of other Americans that medicate themselves every day several times a day, whether it be with Alleve or Prednizone?!?!

Let me ask you this, is the person with chronic pain, blinding headaches, arthritis, nausea, epilepsy, or even depression more impaired when suffering the effects of their affliction or when they are properly medicated to reduce the symptoms? Do you think you have the same reaction time and same focus when you're back is screaming and you have meningitis, (which I guessed correctly on the very first post, I didn't just get close mister obtuse. Just sayin) or when you have gotten the pain under control and feel fine.

Come on, man. I understand that those drivers that are visibly and noticeably impaired and danger to others should be lawfully punished. However, if you have absolutely no indication of impairment in judgement or ability to operate a motor vehicle, then what? You have been driving among pot smokers since the day you got your license and not one of them has caused you a single moment of grief, but you think they should be tested and arrested? Seriously?

Hedge,
Pot should not be taxed anymore than anything else. Strange that you would want to "tax the hell" out of something you don't use. I thought you were against raising taxes?
Do you think the tax rate should be higher on pot than on alcohol? Do you think it should be higher than the corporate tax rate? Who exactly do you think would be paying these taxes you speak of? Just trying to figure out where such an arbitrary statement like that would come from?

Hope this helps,
FDC

Fdc, I said impaired on anything, right? My stance is likely not to change here. After you have taken care of a few victims of impaired drivers and had people u know die, at least I have become jaded I guess.

Neither is best but comparing "POT" to "alcohol" is like comparing apples to oranges. Weed gets a bad rap. It may slow you down on reaction time but you are driving more aware. No one can drive drunk but many people can drive high. Best to be sober on the road. The stigma that comes with Marijuana is very unfair.
