The reason I ask is our company has had to slowly purchase all automatics to get CDL B & Chauffeur drivers. Our CDL A Tractor- drivers obviously know but prefer automatic & I understand why.

I take it that most of you are in there 40's ? I was driving at 15 on a regular basis but my 1st experience was in a old Chevy pick-up with 3 on the column.

Learned on my bf's 1986 Chevy Z-24. My bf had a blue one and I had a red 1984 but mine was automatic. I miss that car. Shoulda never sold it. Dad had an old 1984 Dodge Ram that I drove very rarely just because I didn't like it and PaSprint had a Toyota Tacoma I drove all the time here at work. Although I have never driven in winter weather because I was scared to death of wrecking.

I'm 41. My dad made me learn to drive and eventually take the driving test for my license on my 15th birthday in a car with standard transmission. Even though I haven't driven standard transmission regularly at any point in my life, it is similar to riding a bike, in that once you learn, you don't lose it.

Snafu need a job I'll hook you up but seriously there is such a shortage of drivers that companies for years have been recruiting in the eastern block nations, Mexico & Africa. Nobody wants to do anything semi-physical anymore in this country & the ones that fill out an application can't pass a drug screen or background check. You can make a good living as a driver.
