LeSean McCoy traded by Eagles to Buffalo (physicals pending) for LB Kiko Alonso who missed all of 2014 season for the Bills. Alonso was a former LB for Kelly at Duckville.

Let the fun begin!! Free-agents, trades and stupid moves to keep the cap in line!!

Doesn't seem to make much sense to me.....

Doesn't seem to make much sense to me.....

However, I do think Kelly is a decent coach and would like to see how this plays out. Any Eagles fans opinions out there?

As an Eagles fan since 1969, those were some sad days back then, the trade doesn't make sense but I'm sure Kelly has some things up his sleeve. With Murray a FA and questions surrounding AP and with some decent backs coming out this year, he may be bundling up some trades. They let go Cary Williams after two seasons and are going to cut even more players, Herrermans already let go as well, stalwart OL.

Perhaps there is a draft pick in the trade with the Bills? Not sure, since it says a source for ESPN and Adam Shefter is saying it as well.

Thanks Old School. So with the new cap, $160,000,000 is what the Eagles need to be at? Or $10,000,000 after that, meaning, $170,000,000?

Trent Cole is also gone as well.

Impartial Jets fan here...
I don't think anyone can deny that Alonso was a really good LB in 2013. Top 3 in the league in tackles if I remember correctly, plus he had four INTs on the year. Sure he tore up his knee and didn't play at all last season, but this guy has proven he can be an elite play-maker on defense in just one year in the league. On the other hand, you have a RB with declining stats (I know Eagles fans, the O-line had injuries last season) going into his 7th year and about to hit 1,500 carries for his career and has over 1,750 touches out of the backfield in total. It's just a fact that RBs have a short shelf life in the NFL and McCoy looked worn down in the last four games of the season when the Eagles finally had a healthy O-line in tact (believe me, I was well aware of this as a fantasy owner). While LeSean McCoy peaked in 2013 statistically, Alonso was having an excellent rookie campaign. Eagles fans should be happy with this trade, IMO. RBs are replaceable, while top-level LBs are harder to come by. As a Jets fan, I won't be happy going against McCoy for the next year or two, but after that, what are the odds he remains an elite RB? I'd say the odds are higher that he's backing up some young guy on another team or out of the league altogether. With the advancements in ACL surgery over the last decade, Alonso should be able to get back to playing at a high level for years to come, especially with an entire season+off-season to rehabilitate.

Kiko alonso is top LB.

This kid can fly around and kelly coached him in oregon....

Shady is good, but in that offense he isnt a good fit...

I like the trade on both ends.

Spiller injury prone always...jackson old.....they need a stud RB in Buffalo to take pressure off of young Qb.....or Orton whoever is starting.....

Eagles have polk who I think can be a stud....plus sproles who never seems to get slower....

Cleared up cap space....good move IMO

I'm sure Chip either has his RB or thinks he can get one in the draft for pennies on the dollar compared to Shady. It's hard to find stud LBs and Alonso is one of those. I don't even worry about his knee with the way these guys are coming back from stuff these days. I doubt their running game loses much if any yardage out of this deal. What if he's clearing up some room to make a run at Suh? Suh up front with Alonso behind him and then their offense and you have something that looks pretty good.

Of course I also think Mariota might fall far enough that Chip will be able to make a small trade to get up to him. I don't like Philly but to me this is smart. They've given their coach the ability to make things happen in a way that he thinks benefits the team. Too many coaches are strapped to things the GM and owners think are right.

Spiller wasn't tagged and can now go wherever he wants once free agency starts. With the acquisition of Cassell, it means EJ's the starting QB. Ryan better not do here what he did with the Jets.

Good trade for the Eagles IMO, Chip kelly knows what he is doing

Eagles really wanted to address "D" in the off-season and they knew Shady McCoy's better days are not ahead of him, and Kiko was stellar before going down LY with the knee injury and the Eagles LB crew was awful when Kendrick and Demeco Ryans both went out.

Now Cassell to the Bills makes me laugh, but he's a decent backup, vet and team player, but knowing Ryan, he'll screw up EJ Manuel or trade him, and Manuel would do well with the right QB coach, like a Andy Reid or even Fox @ Chicago. Perhaps the Bears would be willing to trade Cutler to the Bills? :mj07:

I said it from day one. His football philosophy does not coordinate to the nfl. In two years he's given up two of the best players on the team. You cannot change the way the game has been played for 80 years. When all is said and done he will return to college with his tail between his legs. It annoys me because I liked watching my team but intentionally missed every game last year. Another unwatchable year for eagles fans on the horizon Mariota could change my perception slightly, but that's neither here nor there...

Can you say Steve spurrier?

There is speculation that besides freeing up money for Phil., Alonso also could be a chip in a trade up for Mariotta....

Was hoping the Jaguars might be the one trading down and McCoy would be one of the pieces. Damn
