Was hoping the Jaguars might be the one trading down and McCoy would be one of the pieces. Damn
I said it from day one. His football philosophy does not coordinate to the nfl. In two years he's given up two of the best players on the team. You cannot change the way the game has been played for 80 years. When all is said and done he will return to college with his tail between his legs. It annoys me because I liked watching my team but intentionally missed every game last year. Another unwatchable year for eagles fans on the horizon Mariota could change my perception slightly, but that's neither here nor there...
Can you say Steve spurrier?
I don't understand this sentiment. The Eagles have had a top five offense in Chip's first two years, neither of which with anything close to a top ten quarterback. Not sure how his scheme is not coordinating to the NFL?
Chip is guilty of having some Rex Ryan in him, only caring about one side of the ball. I am happy he is at least trying to address that, losing big games 35-31 is getting to be a bit much. Impossible to evaluate this trade just yet, because it is the first of many moves. Picking up a nice player in Alonso helps, but the 9 million in cap savings is big since they still have to replace 3/4ths of the secondary.
The game does evolve - people do not run the wing T or Power I anymore. This might not work long term, who knows, but I don't understand just dismissing his 20-12 record and labeling Chip as the next Spurrier, seems foolish.
Going back to early in the Oregon days, Chip has said the QB and the RB are the two most interchangable parts in his offense (this goes against all conventional wisdom and certainly hard to buy into completely for the NFL game). The offense is based on complicated blocking schemes and speed, which is why the Eagles struggled when Kelce was out this year, as the center calls all of the protection packages at the line. WR blocking is also critical which is why Jackson was easy to let go of.
This team averaged 27 ppg with Mark Sanchez...there is something to the methodology here....They lost at least three games last year when the defense could not hold a 4th quarter lead, I am happy this is being addressed.
Today there are multiple reports that Philly will be hot for Frank Gore once the signing period starts....
It has just been reported that Gore will sign with the Eagles....
DeMarco Murray to the Eagles per @AdamSchefter. So Philly still has an elite back and weakens chief NFC East rival
From what I gather, Matthews did not officially sign with the Eagles? Dallas is said to be in the market for DeAngelo Williams of the Carolina Panthers, who the Panthers let slip they were going to release him. If Matthews is still available, he'd do pretty well in Dallas with that OL.
so they sign Mathews and are now going to sign murray,too?.....
what am I missing here?....they setting chits up to make a blockbuster move for mariotta on draft day?......
I don`t understand why they sign both these guys....particularly when you have sproles and polk already...seems like an over-concentration of resources to one position...
Chip said with the amount of carries the RBs usually get in his offensive scheme, two RBs need to carry the load and Sproles will be used more on special plays, returns, etc, if they keep him.
Mariota will likely end up in Tennessee or with the Jets, depending on who trades up or down in the draft, still a few players on last year of their contracts that could be dealt on draft day or just before draft day.
I like what Chip has done but then again I'm not an Eagles fan. I do know that he had a problem with Mckoy because he wouldn't run in the middle as hard and liked to bounce things outside. The two backs he has now will both hit holes hard and keep going. So IMO he got two backs that do what he wants better than the one he had and they're both cheaper and he also picked up a stud LB for his troubles. Add to it that there is one thing Bradford has and it's accuracy. He may not throw it deep well but I don't think that's what Chip is looking for.
The one thing I don't like is his offensive line. I think he believes he can build a good offense with average guys but this isn't college and you're going to be facing great d linemen every game so your O line better be good or you're not running the ball with that much success.(see Cowboys in previous years and then this year) I would think since he likes to run the ball so much he would have started with the O line and built out from there.
GW, actually I hate the Cowboys. I'm a Steelers fan. My whole family always loved the boys so I chose to like the Steelers because my family hated them.
Saying that, I think the signing of McFadden will end up being brilliant. He has a gear that Murray doesn't have. The one knock people will say is that McFadden is always hurt. For that I argument I give you......... Murray for his whole football career outside of last year. If anything the last few years have been good for McFadden. His legs have barely been worked and if I'm not wrong he's only 27.
The Cowboys are looking good IMO. They really only need to draft for the defensive side and maybe a couple of backups on the offensive line but nothing they probably can't get with some undrafted guys. I wish I could say these things about the Steelers. They're going to waste the prime years of big Bens career.
