Once you go mac - you never look back.

Tell you what - it sounds like you have a memory problem with your computer - in fact, I can pretty much guarantee it.

Look for a computer repair (other than Geek Squad) store (just call up a computer repair place and ask them if Geek squad us a rip off. If they say yes, we're much cheaper - take it to them - better yet, give it to a kid in high school. He will fit it with new memory)

Or - get a mac and never look back. (If you're just surfing the web and getting email and storing photos, then get a mac.)

It sounds like your machine is fine, you just need to have the operating system loaded on it again.

The only screen I can get to is hitting F10 on the restart.

Am I SOL

TIA :0008

these days you have to burn one when you first receive the laptop

check the makers download page and see if they have the d/load available

if not contact them to send you one, they will probably charge a fee for it

If you have your Windows Installation Disk, you can fix it too. And you can get that too from HP.

I hate to say it, but it sounds to me like your hard drive is fawked. My laptop acted the same way after I fell asleep with it on my lap and woke up to the sound of it hitting the floor. Bought a new one and the laptop was stolen less than a week later on a bus leaving Quito.

"insert boot disk and press any key"

This is a telltale sign of your computer's memory malfunctioning.

I know it says insert boot disk - but this is because the memory has issues and can't move forward.

I think JS is correct about the hard drive being fawked.
