Baeumont,Orange, Lake Charles will get hammered.

Too late to leave now so i guess im staying. Will probably lose power again so whats new. Got the portable generator filled with gas so im ready i guess...

You really think it's gonna get Crowley? The only reason I ask is that a buddy of mine is in Lafayette, and he's gettting gas cans ready for an outage again. I would have guessed Lake Charles would have been a stretch.

I am sitting in Kemah which is about 20 miles from Galveston.
Not going anywhere.
Smart no,but my house is 22' above sea level so flooding should not happen.
I hope.

Good Luck all.

kegray, I am a structural engineer and I'm telling you that your decision to ride this out in Kemah of all places, is bordering on the insane. I pray that flooding is your biggest problem.

Hunker down friend, this is gonna be something you will never forget.

Without a doubt it will get Crowley and Lafayette. We are east of the hurricane we will get hit hard. Power will be out everywhere.

22 feet above sea level might not be enough. When Rita hit 3 years ago i would of never thought the water could of come up this high in certain areas down here. And you are right by the water kegray. You got more balls than me i will give you that.

I have been in 3 hurricanes in my lifetime.
I rode out Alicia in the 80's in exact same area.
120+MPH winds and a predicted storm surge near the same.
I am not worried in the slightest, but if it does look bad then I will bail to a friends house 20+ miles inland.

Roads are empty and hurricane winds dont kick in until around 6pm. I can get out and to a safe spot in 30 minutes.

Thanks for concern and will do the safest thing.

I would say about 25% of this area did not leave.
Many people didnt want to go through trafic like Rita. It was taking people 15+ hours to get to Dallas.

Local news is saying only a Cat 2 and will weaken nearing land fall.

Galveston is above sea level which is something none of La can say as well.
Rita was 145+MPH in Gulf.
Ike has not hit anything above 100 in the gulf.

It is looking like it will be east of Galv a little bit, which would put us more on the clean side.

Stay safe in Crowley if it takes a north track near land and puts that area in dirty side.

Thoughts and prayers once again to our friends in the Gulf Coast region.

IKE REMAINS A VERY LARGE TROPICAL CYCLONE. HURRICANE FORCE WINDS EXTEND OUTWARD UP TO 120 MILES... TROPICAL STORM FORCE WINDS EXTEND OUTWARD UP TO 275 MILES... AN OIL PLATFORM IN THE NORTHWESTERN GULF OF MEXICO RECENTLY REPORTED SUSTAINED WINDS OF 109 MPH.

COASTAL STORM SURGE FLOODING OF UP TO 20 FEET ABOVE NORMAL TIDE LEVELS... ALONG WITH LARGE AND DANGEROUS BATTERING WAVES... CAN BE EXPECTED NEAR AND TO THE EAST OF WHERE THE CENTER OF IKE MAKES
LANDFALL... EXTENDING A GREATER THAN USUAL DISTANCE FROM THE CENTER DUE TO THE LARGE SIZE OF THE CYCLONE. SURGE FLOODING OF UP TO 25 FEET AND POSSIBLY HIGHER... COULD OCCUR AT THE HEADS OF BAYS.

I cant count the number of hurricanes ive rode out. At least 4 in the last 3 years for sure.

If i were you i would go to San Antonio if you can find a room there. What about Corpus?

East of Galveston would be nice for you. You wouldnt get hit too hard.

Cameron already has water on the roads. They will definetely be underwater again.

the storm hit us".

Alisha was a nasty b*tch, but I slept through it all. Hopefully this one turns out more like Allen - all hype. I didnt think Kemah was that high though. I know my house in Clear Lake was only a few feet above water level, you sure its not 22 inches? Dont forget to put your car in the garage. Hopefully it leaves your home and car undamaged, but knocks out most of the power in the area until the end of the CFB games on Sat. That will allow me free almost reign on the
office pool and an easy payday. And, if you do some lootin' after the 'cane, pick me out a nice new flat screen.
