Why don't you throw all the cigarettes away so you won't have any around when you get the urge? It would be a lot harder if you had to get in the car and drive all the way to the store to get your fix.......I think.

Crap, I don't smoke so what do I know?

I hope you guys can beat this thing. It's a nasty, filthy habit that has no redeaming social value.

Don't smoke !!

Good attitude Jack. Start over tomorrow and consider the number of smokes you've had in the last few weeks. You're doing ok. Compare the number smoked recently to all you've smoked in the same time period before you quit. Keep trying and don't give up.

did you ever think of going for hypnosis (sp ?) ?

that might help....

keep trying....

agreed, I've seen this work for some....think about it.

I know it sounds wierd, but so is putting a buring stick of chemicals up to your mouth to mirror the effects of smoke inhilation.

Ive stayed out of these threads for several reasons.

What I have to say - well, you may not like it.

Frankly, its the only way to address it.

When we met for the first time I smoked, and had been smoking for many, many years.

There's been some great times at every Superbowl party Ive attended. Regardless of cigarettes. I smoked for over ten years. Cigars and others much longer.

Bottom line/
If you'd like to know what is the secret to quitting smokes altogether?

YOU HAVE TO WANT IT.

Its that simple

I smoked for over a decade.

Never quit smoking once.

Never wanted to. People asked me all the time. Why dont you quit? Why dont you try not to smoke? How long do you think you can still smoke?

Guess what? Shut the Fcuk up.

Dont need and dont want your opinion.

I say smoke until you can say you have had enough.

No bullshit.

No crap like - I smoke when I drink.

I smoke when I gamble,
blah blah blah.

(Cue Johnny Dangerously)

I quit smoking, once.

Once.

If you want something in your life. Then you make it happen.

Thats fkucng it. Bottom line.

IT WILL NEVER BE THAT SIMPLE AGAIN.

IF there is something in your life that is important.

than you make it happen.

IF you cannot, I have no sympathy for you.

We, as human beings, have the right to make decisions for ourselves. The people that ignore that right I have no compassion for.

You want something badly enough, well, you make it happen.

Jack, as a person, Ive met you many times over many years. This is a decision I know that you can make. I met Jack Sr. many times as well. He'd tell you to do whats right for you. Always a stand up guy.

*Raises my glass in a toast to you both*

Geez, Jack, you are doing great ! Why are you beating yourself up ? One cig doesn't mean anything..........you don't have to go cold turkey 100% to be considered a quitter. Breaking the streak doesn't mean much in the overall picture or scheme of things.. Just look at it this way, you've had only one cig in the past 15 days. If you were to go the rest of your life with only having one every 15 days, I am sure you, your family & your doctor would be very proud and satisfied with your performance. If you can keep it at that, shoot, give yourself a break & have one every couple of weeks. Consider it a reward for a job well done.
Hang in there.

Hey Jack your honesty in telling us means you are committed to this thing.

There will always be bumps along the road. If it were easy, everyone would quit.

Hang in there, you can do it!

Number 1 being a alcoholic recovering you know it took me 8 times before i quite and got over the 7 year mark and then i slipped after 7 years, and have had 3-4 after that in over 10 + years, one thing i was taught when i was in my 90 day in house program on my own time and could leave anytime i wanted to was when i got out if you slip don't beat yourself up 90 days seems like along time, but was scared shitless when i got out for the next 3-4 months then next thing you know i had lot of time and slipped and i also found out by beating yourself up you make it worse so what you start over each time i had a slept i had to say in a meeting high i am eric and i am a alcoholic and pick up a 1 day chip because i did not drink for that day those multiple years were gone i was at day 1 again, so just look day to day hell you been doing it longer then i have been dipping which i am still off of thanks to you, get the stuff i said in our letter, it might take you 15 times no-one i know has quit anything of addiction in first 2-3 tries i am sure there are some out there but more of the ones who keep coming back then those who made it on first try, so do it till it works and it will someday. please all and try what i said in email, it will really help. you go day to day and don't worry about the past and in the start you go by the hour you will make it.

Jack,

Stay on that treadmill, exercise will help you quit and if it doesn't atleast it will help keep you alive. Atleast that way you won't have to quit smoking like my dad did, by spending two months in the hospital after having a massive heart attack. Good luck.

i feel horrible because i know i can do this and i will. i tried drinking tonight and i blew it and i knew it would happen. KNEW IT! soooooooo, no more drinking until memorial day :)

christ!

but one cig isnt THAT bad. it isn't.

it isn't. all that did was break my streak, that's all. i still feel good and KNOW i can go without.

(trying to convince myself)

my penalty is doing 5 miles on the treadmill tomorrow even if it takes ten trips up there. christ!

Not a smoker so wtf do i know. But I did pretend to be a psychologist before I became a lawyer, although I never played one on tv. It sounds like you are setting yourself up to fail and building in an excuse - drinking, poker, bad pussy, whatever.

So you have to end that if you REALLY want to win. If drinking poses a risk - then you need to stop that too. Poker - ditto. Whacking off - well you have to have something.

But in all seriousness, not to sound to much like Tony Robbins, you have to keep yourself in positions to succeed, not where failure is an option.

The above poster is right - you will quit when, but only when, you REALLy want to and are willing do whatever it takes to make that happen. [

The drinking thing is BS Jack and you know it. There is no reason you cant drink and not smoke? You keep using it as your out. Stop! Get drunk and sit there with a pack of cigarettes and dont ****ing smoke them. GEEZUS! Do you need Wellbutrin or something?

Either that or we are sending Agent down there to live with you for a month, Of course maybe that won't be a good idea, because that would lead you to drink and smoke more

Come on Jack, like Agent said stop kidding yourself about the drinking causing the smoking. You should know that your man enough not to do it. You were the one leading this charge, now time to get back up and put on your leader hat

Jack - That sucks. You have to quit setting yourself up to fail. No drinking until you have kicked smoking for at least 3 months - PERIOD.

jack....i know you`ve had some recent experience with hospitals....as i had with my brother....it`s a horrible thing....

then, last week,i had some terrible pain in my back and side...i honestly thought i was having a heart attack...

went to the emergency room...enzyme tests...x-rays...cat scan......nothing...

i was poked with needles..i.v`s...then went for an out patient mri...

i apparently tore a back muscle on the new bowflex.....never felt anything quite like it....thankfully...at least that`s what they believe...it`s not my heart...i`m doing an 45 minutes to an hour on the treadmill 5 times a week...no probs...

hospitals suck...there`s not much worse in life........your health is everything...

quit,bro....please quit...
