Fact: No man-made material can replace any human structure without some sort of compromise.

Most mercury is released during 1) placement and 2) removal. With a high speed suction it's a not issue during placement. For those who get them removed because of the mercury, they are likely released more mercury in getting it taken out than would have been released in the life of the filling.

All long-term studies and meta-analysis have proved it does not have any systemic issues. That doesn't mean you won't find scores of websites of 'experts' saying otherwise. But true, legitimate research supports its safety.

Composites have plastics/BPA.
