Needing Sleep

Needing Sleep

A lot of good suggestions here, but I would avoid the Nyquil. That stuff is loaded with alcohol. Keep up the good work, and it's true, one day at a time.

OH
2 shots of Jameson
2 shots of NyQuil
Play the DVD "Lonesome Dove"
You might not wake up ever but you will get to sleep.

Cheers

Nyquil can work wonders; hell, I use it all the time. But the main thing that knocks you out is alcohol in it. Not a smart move for someone who is trying to beat an addiction to alcohol.

Mully... I have no idea what your lifestyle is like, but the people who suggested working out are spot on. Esp. if you didn't work out regularly before. Get and ipod or a CD player and walk or run or use the machines or whatever.... it will wear you out and it can give you good time to think... about anything... sports, your life, your job, anything.

2 tablets of benadryl will get me more shitfaced than 2 shots of anything on the market. Those lil tabs pack a punch, I not only get tired but i act drunk when i take those.

:mj07: :mj07:

thought I was the only person benadryl had that effect on

as far as sleeping, I would definitely go the herbal route (and no, not :weed: - I used it medicinally for many years, but found that although it helps one to fall asleep, my sleep was not nearly so restful), since you don't want to foster any more addictions...there are many herbs you could try, and a lot of herb stores will have a specific mix already made for sleep. And believe it or not, but counting sheep jumping over the fence usually works for me too. Our minds are funny things, and sometimes when you think about something too much your mind will resist. Like if you think "I REALLY want to fall asleep", then you will not be able to, whereas if you think "I want to stay awake and I'm going to count up to 1000 sheep jumping over the fence..." I rarely make it to 100...

good luck - insomnia sucks...i know...:sadwave:

Jack the guy is trying to sleep without the aid of alcohol. Your advice is right on for a guy like me and you but not a potential alcoholic

Maybe this can help you and im not sure you think it will but after the fact u will realize it does. When i use to work construction i worked a grueling shift. When i got laid off i use to do side work while waiting till i was called back for work. Sometimes it may even take six to eight months to be called back to work. When i was called back I would never be able to get to sleep no matter how tired i was. We used to call this job anxiety. I use to look at the clock no matter how tired i was and then the last hour id fall asleep, Finally i would have that one crushing weekend where you just pass ot and all the sudden you were good to go, Its gonna take some time my brother and when it finally hits you will know it. Please do me a favor tho. Don't use this as a crutch to drink again. Its your deal not the alcohol

Aren't you around my age (late 20s)?? What did you have to take it medicinally for?

Yes, I am in my late 20s... had stomach problems for the last 5 years - would wake up at 5 or 6 am every morning from pain and couldn't fall asleep at night. Couldn't eat anything or go to work in the morning until I had a little puff. Pain was unbearable without it. Finally after 5 years and countless doctors and specialists, someone figured out my blood was rejecting nearly everything I was eating...went on a special diet for two months, and now I am pain and weed free :) :) :)

Very sorry to hear you had to deal with that. But nice to hear you are doing better now!

Simple but this is what works for me....no :mj07:

Laying on your back, take a real deep breathe, as deep as you can, hold it for as long as ???, let your breathe out real slow.....Goodnight, we'll talk 2morrow.

On another note I was a real hard partier, so much of one that had I not stopped drinking I would wouldn't be here today....(no Madjacks :142smilie ). Knowing very well that I had a problem, I attended a AA meeting....1 meeting. I guess I never wanted to quit yet because I never went back. Still knew I had a problem....shit walking into a bar when the music's pumping....I ain't coming out until it's over. The last straw was when I ended up in jail with assault charges. Just three days before that a buddy of mine had approached me to tell/ask me to quit as I'm going to kill someone or be killed because of a fight I was in with 3 guys earlier that week. And I never looked for fights, I was always helping or trying to break them up...that one was because of this guy smashing his girlfriend in the face in front of me. Drinking or not, I would never allow that. That same week I had another beef and ended up behind bars......thought's of how bad my childhood was (never had one) because of my father's drinking and how my kid's will have to go thru that or not have a father...DONE. It was many years of partying and living like that, but once I had made my mind up I was done. I won't even have a chocolate if it has liquor in it....nothing since Jan 15/1982.....I would love to have one, but I'm too afraid of the consquences.

Good Luck and remember....deep breathe.
