Tomorrow here in Houston, schools are closed, no food on the shelves at the grocery store, it's crazy, all this cold weather we have had lately has me puzzled, coldest winter on record

What if the rest of the world is right and you are just an idiot. Gotta admit, it's possible.

Sometimes, a (meaningful) discussion simply can't be had - despite the evidence. Good luck, though.

Peace! :)

Yep.

And all of Galileo's peers disagreed with him too....except he was right and they were wrong......

So, what is your point, genius?

BTW - the herd is usually WRONG.

But, nice try.

Its a bigger hoax than Santa Claus, pure bullshit by the left

Enviro-babble, global warming, climate change is the same as a religion or a cult.

Power rests at the top and all the sheeple follow along blindly.

I'm not sure if I believe in global warming or not... it could be legit, but how could anyone possibly know with so little data?

Thermometers have been around for about 100 years. The studies that have been done show that the temps have been increasing each decade - for a total of 10 decades. OK, fine, I get that.

But how long has the earth been around? If you are a Christian, you would say around 5,000 years or so. If you believe in evolution, you would likely say billions of years.

Ok, so let's take the conservative view - in this case the Christians. We are measuring a period of about 100 years, out of a total of 5,000 years, and making a conclusion that global warming exists. However, what if the last hundred years are part of a cyclical pattern, and the 1000 years before that saw the earth temperatures go down? Nobody knows. The last 100 years are just like a random number in the history of the world. It's all we have to measure, sure, but nobody can say what the earth's temps where, say 2000 years ago, can they?

It's not much different that looking at only the last 2 days in, say Atlanta, and then making the conclusion that Atlanta gets snow on average 1 of every 2 days all year long.

Not enough data, without looking at the full history of the world, to say that we have "global warming" or to determine if it is just part of a cycle that occurs every 500 or 1000 years or whatever.

I am a Catholic and my Mother is a VERY devout Catholic and we both understand and believe in evolution. Not all Christians are creationists just like not all Conservatives turn a blind eye to global climate change. Those that toe the party line and choose to ignore the facts in front of them, think it is all a hoax that was created by the Liberals. I don't have any idea as to why they would ignore facts but this isn't the only subject that they choose to ignore facts on, so it shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone that they don't understand it. Polar ice caps aren't shrinking and Polar vortex is some made up term, blah blah blah. Some choose to remain ignorant, others accept that things change.

Hope this helps,
FDC

FDC....I think you may have missed my point. It is clear what has happened in the last 100 years. What is unknown is, what happen during the billion years before that. 100 years is a blip, a second in the annuals of time. We could be in hue middle of a cycle of increasing temps which could be followed by lowering temps (as many people think starting happening this winter). There just isn't enough longitudinal data for anyone to know. Some people like to make guesses based on very little data, and that is all the scientists are doing.

Talk to me in about 25,000 years and we will see if the last 100 years was a blip, a portion of an overall cycle, or a real phenomenon.

I agree that it may be a blip. The problem with that is, it is the blip in which we currently reside. I think the rise in temperature has accelerated it somewhat as well. My entire point is that there is a large amount of evidence to suggest that we are indeed experiencing a climatic change in our environment. The evidence is quite overwhelming actually, and to call it a hoax is ridiculous. I am not saying that you have to buy into all the theories as to the cause or whatnot but the fact are the facts. Like when Hedgey said that it is something made up by the left. That is a chosen ignorance.

Spot on with this and the highly small sample size of the last 100 years. It's widely accepted that the earth is still coming out of the last Ice Age. Whether the slow rise in temperatures is attributed solely to that, or a combination of our own pollutants plus that is a cause for debate.

This argument, as to what is debatable, is only valid if temperature was the only factor considered. When polar ice caps are melting, when you have glacial ablation upwards of 88% (that means glaciers are melting and receding) and that ablation rate has tripled in the last 10 years, when permafrost is no longer permafrost, ocean temperatures on the rise. That isn't forming a debate, that is ignoring the obvious.

Hope this helps,
FDC
