If the internet ban becomes law. What options dose a guy have?

While I'm sure the offshore books are working out a plan for us to get around this shit. Too much money lost if we can't wager for them. The only two options to continue making a living at this for guys like me attempting to do so.Are as I can see is. Move to Nevada and wager at the books there. Or move to another country that allows Internet wagering. :scared I have to admit, I'm worried. But I'll do what I have to do. Are you guys worried?

I cannot imagine this actually passing. This is like a constitutional amendment to ban abortions. Won't pass and can't enforce it even if it does. You can't actually restrict websites and turn banks into snoops. Bush is already getting hit hard for other civil liberty stuff. This passes, he and Republicans in congress would get run out of town by the media and special interest groups who already hate him.

So I'm assuming this is just a campaign commercial bill. But if this actually passed you can kiss the GOP good-bye this November. This would be unprecedented Government censorship - even worse than Prohibtion. People who don't even care about gambling would go crazy. You can't ban websites in a free country. To even suggest that and actually draw up a bill is insane. The reason no one is getting upset is because it hasn't passed. If it did, there would be instant fireworks. But we'll see...

IMO the govt doesn't care about people losing their money to online gambling. They care about not getting their taxes on it. We already have legal online gambling---it's called horse racing. It's legal to bet sports online in Nevada through a dialup close-loop system. The govt is getting their share. If they ban offshore gambling, then casinos will offer the same thing legally and the govt will get their money.

My online book is located in Costa Rica, and so is their ISP. The government can't touch them. Also, even if the government did lock the site, my book has two 1-800 numbers to call to place bets.

my opinion is it will slip right on through tomorrow but then it has to pass through the senate. i highly doubt it gets past the senate and they might not even have time for it this session. if they don't have time for it this session they will have to start all over again, from scratch, and get it past the house again. this happened almost exactly like this, i think it was 3 years ago. i'm concerned but sort of optimistic it won't get passed. i'll watch those hypocritical idiots tomorrow if it's on tv. most of them don't know wtf they are talking about and are talking from both sides of their mouths. f'in dopes!

Not just every 3 years, but every year someone sponsors a bill like this. At least for the last 6 or 7 years. The Senate almost certainly won't even look at it, let alone vote on it, as they really never have before. Time runs out and again as mentioned, they have to start over from the House.

Also, Dell Dude had a good post (to dispel notions that his machine shop adventures are his only 'talent', no matter how delusional).

Smoke Jensen, if you are really worried about this, and consider moving to Vegas or 'another country that allows internet gambling' because you make your living doing this, then I really question your contention that you 'make your living doing this.'

Don't think its got a shot in hell of passing--and could think of a couple ways around it if it does.

--and on moving to vegas to bet sports---I was surprised that they avoid single player sports (golf-tennis ect)like the plauge when I was out there. Only wager available on golf I found out there were futures on British Open---Seemed they cater to horses--and the big 3 sports--which in my opinion are hardest to beat.
A good offshore book has more offers that all casionos in vegas combined.
I could see where Vegas would be a plus to poker players but other than that--they offer little in my opinion.

I just don't see why they don't approach it where they allow US casinos to have internet gambling, tax those companies, and ban international wagering. This would still be bad for the players due to less options, but I think a plan like this could at least pass through. And you know the American companies involved would sponsor it.

i think if they allowed US casinos to operate online they wouldn't have to ban international gaming because most would play here, i would think. where would you rather have your money, offshore somewhere or with harrah's? however, people would still play offshore to avoid the taxes and i'm sure offshore would still have better betting odds for the players. the US would definitely have a lock on the recreational players, which seems what most offshore casinos are competing for anyway. it's the certain individual states that want the ban because they need their lotteries and horse racing (the 2 biggest gambling ripoffs). who knows...

I have no ideal why its so hard to believe that if someone makes a living doing something.And that certain something all of a sudden becomes outlawed where they live. But by moving to another state they could continue at this living. Why is it so hard to believe that a person would go to that extreme? So I guess your just calling me a liar kosar. Good point, Jack, about money being safe. I think the offshores lines and payouts would be much better due to not having to pay taxes on their profits. Double that with the player not paying taxes, and the advantages start to compete with the safety factor. I think this would lead to banning international gambling.

Now why is horse racing mentioned in the same sentence as the lottery as ripoff? 10% cut off the top by the track. The odds are then calculated based on play.
