This is why threads like this are totally useless. For one thing, it can never happen, so what's the point of having a discussion on it? Secondly, you always have the "my view is greater than your view" people.
To a person, most people don't give a shit if their next door neighbor has food to eat, so they certainly couldn't care less about the lady in the Congo starving to death.
So in a post that slams my post for having a "greater than thou" view, you proceed to have a "greater than everyone in this thread" view. I actually think it is a great thought provoking thread, and it has produced some good answers so far. I would not say that my view is greater than anyone else?s view. However, there is a major difference between stupidity and ignorance, and in the case of kneifl, it is just plain down stupid. It really has nothing to do with a view of the world. And in fact, isn't it him, and not me, that said his view was "over our heads"?
So maybe you should have quoted him instead of me. And maybe if you think you are "better" than the whole discussion, and that people really don't care about one another, then you don't have to join in.
Going through and looking at what everyone posted, I think that there is a common theme to most of them. Jord posted two good ones in nation states and religion, and from these and all the posted atrocities, you can see that the main theme is intolerance. Creating borders with nations, apartheid, slavery, and the blind hatred of others with different views and race, and the hate that stems from organized religion all breed intolerance and have been the cause of much of the pain and suffering in the world.
