Welcome, Jack!
Let me know when you are in town, and we can meet up. I live about two exits past the Galleria. There are some great restaurants around that area. You are close to the Vinings which is a great score for grub.
I will recommend on situations.
No Kids with you
Canoe - great seafood an steak, a little up-scale, great beer and wine selection
Old Vinings Inn - This is probably one of the best restaurant experiences around. The only reason no kids here is that they would not appreciate what was going on around them.
Maybe kids/Maybe not
If you like meat on your plate and a lot of it, you have to go to Fogo de Chao or Sal Grosso. Atlanta is becoming known for its selection of Brazilian churrascarias.
This is a must do while you are here! It's all you can eat meat brought around on skewers by waiters. You have a disc--green side up says "slap it on me", red side up means "let get rid of some of this first". It's the great American gorging fest. You can eat there at lunch for about half-price as well! Don't eat the sides or visit the salad bar--it's meat for me! Great for low-carb dieters.
With kids
You have a Dave and Buster's in your backyard when you are at the Galleria. Always a good place to let the kids run wild. Bring your pocketbook, though.
Shoot me an email, and we can make plans to meet. I can pretty much meet anytime during the day. One of the few advantages of owning your own business! I'm up for Fogo for lunch, too. It's about two blocks from my house.
Looking forward to meeting you.
