If people don't like politics stay out of the here. I don't llike soccer so I don't go ranking out everybody who does. DJV good idea about thinking on your own. The things posted from blogs can't be trusted anyway. Some guys got thin skin. So stay out. Put us below the trash. Probably where we deserve to be.

that's just it though - the soccer forum is way down the page. I think p/r belongs there too.;) It's just to much in the forefront as is.

IE: Put us at the bottom, put us at the top. I don't think any of us give a crap. The fact is, you're not going to host a politics/religion forum and have everyone get along. We all think we're right, and that's not going to change any time soon.

Anyone that thinks it is just a board full of negativity lacks the passion that brings the regulars here. There is an educational angle that comes with debate, let's not forget that. If you can't handle an intellectual challenge to your viewpoint, stay away. There are people that don't belong in the debate, but they are welcome nonetheless. I've learned a lot in this forum, and it hasn't always been pretty, but it is what it is.

Pretty much my sentiments also--don't think positioning of forum will make one iota diff--if board thinks its detrimental to forum in general--just get rid of it.

--as Clint said puts all the contoversial issues (politics /religion) in one area.

--but again it certainly is Jack-IE and companies call and makes me no diff--in fact would prob cut my internet time 10 or so hours a week. :)

Just a thought... Don't know if it's possible, but limiting the number of threads a member can start to one per day would cut down on the number of hit & run spam threads.

I hate hit and run threads too. Probably the same guys that do it also send out mass email forwards with all the headers intact. Hate that crap!

Jack: I had a talk with Eddie Haskell about this, and I said I'd never share this with anyone else in the forum, but.....

Some of us are only here to sharpen our debating and critical thinking skills. I scoured the net for years before finding a forum that offered the intellectual challenges presented by Tenzing, Raymond, Hedgehog, Keecko, Skulnik, etc. Since it is difficult to learn from the great ones by always agreeing with them, we've adopted an approach that helps us understand the issues from another point of view AND allows our intellectual superiors an opportunity to show us how to handle these liberal kooks.

Neither Eddie nor I are actually liberals. There, I said it....SORRY ED! We're only here to provoke the great ones and, in turn, learn from them.

Sir, please don't shut this forum down. When I get back from Midnight Mass, I hope to see this thread has been deleted and everything is back to normal.

PS: Anyone that reads this thread before Jack deletes it......PLEASE KEEP THE SECRET!

-Gary

Pretty much sums it up for me. Lee Iaccoca's words which i think hits the nail on the head

By Lee Iacocca with Catherine Whitney

I
Had Enough?

Am I the only guy in this country who's fed up with what's happening? Where the hell is our outrage? We should be screaming bloody murder. We've got a gang of clueless bozos steering our ship of state right over a cliff, we've got corporate gangsters stealing us blind, and we can't even clean up after a hurricane much less build a hybrid car. But instead of getting mad, everyone sits around and nods their heads when the politicians say, "Stay the course."

Stay the course? You've got to be kidding. This is America, not the damned Titanic. I'll give you a sound bite: Throw the bums out!

Someone has to speak up. I hardly recognize this country anymore. The President of the United States is given a free pass to ignore the Constitution, tap our phones, and lead us to war on a pack of lies. Congress responds to record deficits by passing a huge tax cut for the wealthy (thanks, but I don't need it). The most famous business leaders are not the innovators but the guys in handcuffs. While we're fiddling in Iraq, the Middle East is burning and nobody seems to know what to do. And the press is waving pom-poms instead of asking hard questions. That's not the promise of America my parents and yours traveled across the ocean for. I've had enough. How about you?

I'll go a step further. You can't call yourself a patriot if you're not outraged. This is a fight I'm ready and willing to have.

My friends tell me to calm down. They say, "Lee, you're eighty-two years old. Leave the rage to the young people." I'd love to?as soon as I can pry them away from their iPods for five seconds and get them to pay attention. I'm going to speak up because it's my patriotic duty.
Who Are These Guys, Anyway?

i really don't know how you can say that. The two post go hand and hand. He says why. I say its the passion. Seems simple to me. ON another note you accusing anyone of steering a topic in a different direction is very amusing:mj07:. Nobody has been accused of this more then you.:142smilie

The worst part is that all everyone wants to bitch about the presidential election. But most if not all in here are far more affected by local elections. The two elections I care most won't affect people outside of the Phoenix area, but they mean the most to me. I'd gladly take a win in those two elections in return for a McCain win in the presidential election.

I agree on the national level, but I very much agree with the local angle. People come in here and gripe and complain about every little thing, and then don't go out and do anything about it in places where you absolutely can make a difference.

I attended my local caucus this year, and had an affect on what things our district brought forth as agenda items to add to the state platform. I guess I was surprised that the fringe elements had such a strong voice in how things are done and shaped - I shouldn't have been, but I was. I ended up sounding pretty conservative in my democratic district caucus, trying to steer common sense into some pretty ridiculous (IMO) proposals. For instance, one woman wanted to put forth a proposal to extend the existing light rail project throughout the entire state. THE ENTIRE STATE! Every nook and cranny covered, so a person could hop on the rail in one area and ride it wherever they wanted. The young liberal who I'm sure will be running for office soon jumped on that one and said some things that were almost as ridiculous, and they started scripting it. I jumped in, asking them how they would pay for it - if they understood the overall cost of such an idea, would they be willing to cut other areas to pay for it that they currently support, would they want to pay twice as much in taxes, etc. A couple others in the group then spoke up, and we kept that idea off our sheet.

We also talked a lot about health care reform and plans, and some other things of local importance. I really came away feeling like I had a say, and that my commentary kind of centered the message and topics of my district. And it was great to see so many people out and actively caring about their state and national scenarios.

Doing this doesn't make me better than others, but it certainly gives me an understanding of the process, and helped out my outlook on what we as individuals can do in our own way. And I think it gives me a right to be more outspoken against others who just sit and complain about the process, the people, and others with differing ideas than they have. If you don't like liberal ideas, or conservative ones, get off your butt and try something different. You might be surprised.

Ha! Ha! That story is rich! Very common to public deliberative bodies the world over.

it exactly reminds me of a piece Mark Twain wrote for "The Sacramento Daily Union" (June 20, 1866) reporting on the Hawaiian Legislature:

The mental caliber of the Legislative Assembly is up to the average of such bodies the world over - and I wish it were a compliment to say it, but it is hardly so. I have seen a number of Legislatures, and there was a comfortable majority in each of them that knew just about enough to come in when it rained, and that was all...

This Legislature is like all other Legislatures. A wooden-head gets up and proposes an utterly absurd some thing or other, and he and half a dozen other wooden-heads discuss it with windy vehemence for an hour, the remainder of the house sitting in silent patience the while, and then a sensible man - a man of weight - a big gun - gets up and shows the foolishness of the matter in five sentences; a vote is taken and the thing is tabled.

"the bunker"
take a gander in general forum at the "spang surgery" and "i don`t care if i get banned" threads.....

i don`t recall anyone in political calling for the demise of anyone else......

i guess discussing politics,war and
peace, religion and matters of life and death
don`t quite reach the decibel level that
arguing over baseball contests,guys starting services(like a bull services a cow,as i recall
my past experience as a neophyte gambler) and posted records does...

bogus "outlaw goy`s"?....now those are grounds for justifiable homicide...

i`d say we`re downright demure compared to that bunch.... :142smilie
