SOFIA, Bulgaria (AP) - Incredulous doctors made five blood tests on a drunken man to confirm he had a blood-alcohol content of 0.914, far above the usual life-threatening range, police and doctors said Tuesday.
The 67-year old man, whose name was not released, was hospitalized Dec. 20, when a car knocked him down on a street in the southern Bulgarian city of Plovdiv.

A breath test showed an incredibly high blood alcohol level, but police officers thought the result was inaccurate because the man was conscious and talked with them, said Col. Angel Rangelov, head of police in Plovdiv.

Laboratory analysis of five subsequent blood samples taken the same day confirmed that the man had had a blood-alcohol level of 0.914, Rangelov said. A blood-alcohol level of 0.55 is usually considered life threatening.

The man was reported in stable condition after treatment for head injuries.

quick math lesson

20% BAC is the same as .20 BAC
8% BAC is the same as .08 BAC

it kills me to hear the misunderstood peolpe saying that they have a two oh blood acohol count.
1.0 (100%) is your bodies normal blood. you might have a .2, but a 2.0 is impossible. Mathematically and physically.

.2 BAC will not kill you.
.2 mean you are merely double the legal limit. Like saint's post, you are not toying with death until you get to around the .3 or .4 level.

.08 BAC is the legal limit set in the majority of the states. Hit above that and you can pick up a DWI
anything under .08 and you can be hit for DUI.

Depending on your individual tolerance a .1 may or may not even hinder you with appearing to be drunk. I have known plenty a friend who could blow a .1 and still have the normal appearance. Now, their motor skills and eye twitcing would lead you to believe they had a few beers in them - but they didn't behave as if they had the BAC they did.
other people can exhibit extreme inebrieted tendecies with merely a single shot - and their BAC may only be .01.
it all depends on how your body reacts.

20% is equal to .20 - probably a 12 pack in 2 hours
.2% is equal to .002 - probably 1/2 a beer

8% is equal to .08 - probably 3-4 drinks per hour for a 190 pound guy

.8% is equal to .008 - probably 1 beer and then blowing.

back in '97 i was playing a golf tournament and teed off at 9 and had a hotdog at the turn..

then went back to the bar after the tournament and had like 6-7 bud drafts...

then i went home.

then i was in a chain reaction accident at a red light that started 3 cars behind me and when it was all said and done with...

the cop said the chick in the back car admitted to being on the cell phone in a rental car...

bottom line..

it was all my fault as i blew a healthy .26

so timing is everything and shit happens apparently.

oh and by the way yes my insurance company dropped me.

Dumb young college days someone handed me a fifth of Jim and said Ill give you 10 bucks if you chug it.

Ended up in the hospital .38 BAC . I felt sick for at least a month.

Just thankful I can look back and laugh about how DUMB I was back then. Never did collect the 10 bucks though. I wonder where that asshole went. lol
