I have talked with some people the last 3-4 weeks about some of the 'areas' that have been discussed at M.J.'s I won't use specific Names or 'Articles' for obvious reasons. We seem to have come to the conclusion that there have been some 'subjects' as a whole that have raised an eyebrow on more than occasion.
I may be TOTALLY wrong , I've only been here 1 year, but there has been more than one occasion where I've been SHOCKED. I know that I am not forced to 'come' to this site, but I like it here.
The guys I have" talked to" seem to feel that these things that have happened have left, let's call it,a funny taste. I have found myself wondering why things are being said or done,as alot of very negative thoughts or ideas have been brought up.
I was going to post my thoughts on Monday, but I thought I would wait. I KNOW this may seem 'a little out there' to some of you, but I know I am not alone in my concerns. Let it also be known that I am NOT directing this at anyone (shit I'm not a freekin' baby)but I just thought I would get my thoughts in print. I'm sure I'll get dumped on ,but that's O.K. if anyone thinks I'm totally wrong.

there are a lot of new people that have brought a certain 'style' with them and are also bringing up topics that we never used to have.

i gave them a lot of slack and they took off with it. recently, i have been getting complaints from a lot of old AND new members and will cut back on the 'slack' and clean it up some. well, maybe a lot.

clean-up is in progress.

thanks for the post.

Well I sure would like to know what people you are talking about so I can figure out what type of posts' you are proclaiming to leave a "bad taste in your mouth"

KMAC

Also......this is the "GENERAL FORUM" isn't it? What you want everyone in this world to DISCUSS handicapping tactics only?

On the course!
I have noticed the same thing, and stated that thought about a week ago.

I am not upset or offended by any of it, but if you can't put your finger on it, I will give you my take:

The idea of handicapping is taking backseat to "nothingness".

I know there is a slowdown as football winds down, but the forum has lost a lot over the past 6-8 weeks. Again, this is not a put down to anyone. It's just the way change has taken place.

Perhaps it has to do with certain handicappers "leaving town"......I can't be sure. I am sure that there has been a lot less handicapping, and a lot more "pish-posh" in the posts.

Maybe people are getting tired of losing? I really don't know. It just seems that Mad Jack's has become a place to "hang out", over a place to handicap.

Well I definitely "HANG-OUT" here.......so I guess I'm a marked man......go figure....maybe you need to realize that some people may just "HANG-OUT" here bc for one they are not good handicappers and for two, they can learn and get good insight from the people here that handicap on a regular basis.......

i agree with yyz......i see very few people making posts with actual reasoning behind their picks......simple listing of picks is not of much use......

a certain angle to a game is what i look for and have a hard time finding on here........could care less if someone is just interested in listing their picks and trying to impress me with their record....

As someone relatively new to posting, but very interested in capping games, learning new things, and winning, I really appreciate all that MadJacks has to offer. I think it's great that there is a general posting forum and there is a certain leniency or slack cut to people that wish to express themselves. Sometimes, I just enjoy coming to general and reading some of the jokes or looking at mojo or whatever. I think it's great. I have noticed a significant change though in the attitude of a lot of the frequenters here. So many are easily offended at the drop of a hat. I do agree that some of the posts are inappropriate at times but there is nothing written in stone that says you need to open the thread or read it. If you see a post by someone that you know is a trouble maker or posts something you don't agree with...bypass it. I know that this doesn't necessarily solve the problem of cleaning up the site and cleaning out the bad seeds, but it is a temporary solution until Jack can resolve the issues. Instead of being forum vigilantes, everyone should leave the administration of the site to Jack. I know it's difficult to keep frustration inside, especially if you have been coming to this site for a few years. People wouldn't be human if they didn't react to something that bothered them. I think Jack has done a great job in being attentive to certain problem people and areas within the site so there is no reason to think that he won't be able to keep things on the up and up in the present and the future.

An "ignore" feature would be useful. That way the people that just can't help themselves, and who just love to be offended, won't be tempted to click on a thread or read a message from one of the "naughty" users.

I don't have time to give insight behind my picks. (Especially during Basetball and baseball season where games are nightly). And just because I don't --is that enough to label me a bad handicapper? I think everyone is trying to impress with their record in one way or another. Is it wrong to post your record? I think tracking is a good way to tell if someone is solid, streaky or inept. I have toned my self down considerably. I have learned a lot from some guys here and I hope I have added some substance to this place. (at least a few winners if not anything else).

What's wrong with people just listing their picks? I sometimes just list picks but many other times I offer my reasoning behind the pick or a certain angle. I don't take exception to what you post, freeze, but are you basically saying that there should be "rules to posting" picks now? And as far as people posting their records, I don't see anything wrong with that unless they misrepresent the record or are always tooting their own horn. Many people like to know the records of people that post on here to see how they are performing. If you have a person that is on a hot streak and posts their record for the night, week, year, last year, whatever, that can benefit someone. I do agree that there has been a major change over the past few weeks on this site, but a lot of that change is dealing with people that are hyper-sensitive. Also, there are a lot of people on this site that refuse to be proven wrong for it might damage their ego. They always seem to have a need to put their 2 cents in, when most of the time, they should just keep the change.

there IS an 'ignore' feature. go to 'profile' at the top and then click 'edit ignore list'

you can put anybody on ignore and their posts won't be viewable to you.

Hey, what the heck, I'll go ahead and throw my name out there as one of the persons that you had in mind. :)

First of all, this may be the best site to visit regarding handicapping sports. I have brought praise to Jack many times for all of the hard work he puts into this site.

I've noticed lately that some people have felt uncomfortable about certain topics or subjects that I have posted in the past few weeks. I try and make sure that what I post is within the guidelines and doesn't go out of bounds to the point where someone is heavily offended. If Jack feels that my threads are irresponsible, he certainly has my permission to remove it.

I have always listened very carefully to what everyone has to say about likes and dislikes on this board. I am committed to this site being positive and fun at the same time but I have a hard time believing that some of you lose sleep over what is being posted in this forum.

Lots of interesting points have been brought up in this forum, and all of them are valid to a degree. All I try to do is facilitate topics that are good for discussion and maybe even healthy debate. I think it's great that this board does have an overall sarcastic wit and that's something that I enjoy. Sometimes I just don't see what all the fuss is about. Most of you know what I post so know what to expect when you click on my thread.

This is something that Jack posted a while back The Link and I think we should all read line 1 very closely.

if your counting on hearing or seeing stats or write ups from me durning baseball forget it except, for a pitching change baseball is where i make 3-4 times more then all sports together and donot even have time to blink, so if thats what you want won't see it from me,i don't even speak to people hardley that write me durning baseball, because that is where i make my living then college fb,and baseball takes why to much time and some of the things i look at most people wouldnot even have a clue to what i am talking about from a player and coaching veiw, and half the things i read from others are so far offline when it comes to rest and pitch count i could piss my pants, you can't go by a book in baseball and stats, you must watch the game and see it for your own eyes and know if a pitcher is dragging his backside on follow through due to tiered legs or if ball is up do to elbow being below waist ,well why is it below waist,is he tired ,hurt, landing on heel which makes him push the ball insted of staying on top of it,is it to far back in his hand, all these things happen for a reason and if you don't know what to look for its to hard to explain. hell most people worry about pitch count in the next start well let me tell you its the game after a pitchers next start you should be worried about if you are looking at pitch count.
also could care less if he has throwen 10 or 110 i can tell how a guy is going to do buy watching the first 15-20 pitches, if he has movement and keeping it low and smooth out of the hand then he can go forever, but if not he won't make it past 5 you can't make an adjustment during a game,if you arenot on you wont get it during the game maybe an good inning here and there but he will struggle for game.

as a catcher or coach you can see in warm up if it a good day or bad its all in the movement,if its flat you can throw 105 and still get hit because bat speed can adjust to pitch speed but tuff to do with movement.

kust some rambling thoughts why you don't here much from me in baseball.

It just seems that Mad Jack's has become a place to "hang out", over a place to handicap.

over the last couple of weeks Teddy and I have started something reffered to as the "the late night crew" everyone does offer there thoughts and advice before the game. but during most of us hang out, crack jokes and watch the game together. although some useful capping info is given, it seems to be more of a social event. however, its alot of fun and takes some of the pressure off. if the late night crew is bothering people maybe we should move it to the general discussiion forum. that way people wont have to sift the through all the wise cracks looking for helpful capping information.

BEAM ME UP SCOTTY!
Hey Freeze-

I know it probably seems like Im picking on you..but Im not.

Usually people bitch about people NOT posting their records, now we have you characterizing those that do as "people trying to impress us with their record".....

I must say, that is a very silly thing to say, as those with good records, have earned it, and those without shouldn't "impress' anyone. I know your record has taken a beating in the last few weeks, but dont let that cloud your thinking here.

Posted records are important for others...
Posted records reveal confidence....
Posted records keep people honest....
Posted records keep the pressure on a handicapper.....

But posted records, In and of themselves, are not "to impress you"...., so don't feel intimidated.

Some think picks only are bad, some think they are fine, I think they are fine with an accompanying RECORD. It never ceases to amaze me the number of people who insist that everyone else contribute in the same way they do....to each his own.

Iron.
